Newbie considering a Doblo van, circa 06/07 maybe

Whilst it is light use, I'd maybe do 75k a year. The potential for extra load space over similar small vans could be handy now and again, and they seem to come well spec'd for the money

So, are they reliable ? Are the 1.9's economical on fuel ? Are they comfortable, quiet ? 5'7 so not tall or short.

And....do any of the 1.9 models fall under the nasty 2000kg GVW speed issue ? ( and no, not even considering a 1.3 )
Seems ridiculous that manufacturers cant simply quote 2000kg or less for all such vans.

I simply cant afford to buy one, and it have a major problem within a short time. So is it worth considering as a sound investment ?

I just dont know why, but I like the look of them !!

Cheers

A welcome appearance Niall, how are you, wife & doblo?

Hi T,

We're both fine thanks.

Mrs_G has been back in an office job for 21 months now - she misses seeing the countryside but not the agro couriers doing 'small van' work have to put up with.

I'm still cruising aound the UK in my 2003 Iveco Daily (474,000 miles - original engine, g/box & back axle) but have also fallen back into my old profession of repairing PCs and laptops. I split my time between both businesses and have got my brother involved on the web site design side of the PC business. (pm me for my PC repair web site address if interested).

The Doblo is going fine. These days its a very low mileage vehicle. Mrs_G carshares with a colleague and so the Doblo gets used on alternating weeks for the 24 mile daily commute - hardly gets warm!!!. I've just ordered some tyres for it from BlackCircles, some cheapies that meet the load/speed spec (88H) but are a lot cheaper than the Vredestiens I used to put on it when Mrs_G was doing big mileages. I've also learned to live with a few faults rather than fix them as they would have been in the past - the cooling system has a slight leek, topping up once a fornight is a lot cheaper than taking it to the garage for repair and also the glowplug light flashes after the van starts. I learned the hard way to ignore this light until the van is reluctant to start a few years ago - (stubbon glowplug, stripped theard in head, head off, week of lost work, effin HUGE bill etc).

Cheers

Niall
