Hi

I have a 2005 Doblo 1.9JTD and have been really pleased with it in the 3 months so far.

Problem this morning though: went to start her for first time since weekend and the battery was dead flat, odd as nothing had been left on, but the battery looks like the original and so not really surprising if it has failed completely.

Jump started her to get some charge in the battery to see if it would go - after it started, the EMW light stayed on and it wouldnt rev. After a few minutes at idle the accelerator started working properly again, but the light wont go out. Have switched off and restarted a few times but still no joy.

Is it ok to drive like this? Went round the block and it felt fine, and what should I do next?

Many thanks, Paul

If you disconnect the battery for about 10 mins that should reset the light. Then try again. As for the fault itself, I don't know!

Bought a cheapy OBDII reader from fleabay - came up with 7 faults, but the active one was throttle pos. sensor fault

Cleared them all and they have all gone away and not returned, so sorted!

Still doesn't explain the flat battery in the first place though as it hasn't done it since!

5 y/o battery, possibly not treated right during its life so maybe struggling to hold any charge (ok overnight) but there is a lot of electrickery in modern cars these days & which is still running in the background, and then there is the cold weather - which really tests the state of the charge.

My dad had a problem with the new shape civic - battery not holding charge when left while he went on hols for 2 weeks, seems the stealers are well aware of battery problems onboard computer makes regular status checks of the whole system - even a good battery will fade after an hour or so with the radio on!
