Hi guys, just been given an advisory on my disks & pads, still plenty of meat on both but the pads are sitting in a healthy groove I____I :D .

I'm more than happy to swap out the parts myself but wondered if anyone had any tales of joy/woe regarding suppliers/prices etc. Any to stay well clear of, any recommendations?
I even wondered if it was worthwhile letting kwik fit have a go as they are offering free pads for life (although not sure what they charge compared to cost of materials)
Is this one of those times when it might be cheaper to let a local mech supply and fit?

Mine came up as an advisory as well. I don't know why but I keep putting it off so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
I've got a great mech just around the corner but also got a son who reckons he wants to learn about cars...

I fitted Apec, pads and discs, (apecbraking.co.uk), to my 2004 1.9jtd. No problems at all. I was dubious at first as I am from the Lockheed/Ferodo old school. However having checked them out, they are probably the biggest brake parts manufacturer in Europe! The website has a great online catalogue and the prices should be reasonable from any decent after market motor factors.

And the OH has just told me that said son has to produce drawings of disks & pads & how they work for a college project - result.

Done, and with pics inserted into a guide for others tempted to DiY.
Got the job done without getting my hands dirty.

#2 son has an interview with local Stealer in a couple of weeks, he's hoping to get an apprenticeship. he wrote off to a few local garages & the Toyota was the first to come back with an interview.
So, I handed him some vinyl gloves and gave directions (while I supped coffee & took pics (y))
Didn't take him long & he had a good idea of what needed doing - although without guidance I feel he would have mullered my motor.
Had to keep reminding him when to be gentle and when to be firm - OH reckoned that sounded sooooo familiar:eek:
He's only 16 but needs to learn to be a little patient and not dive headlong into the job.
I had to buy 2 sets of pads (choice of 2 came up for model) so ended up taking a set back, took son with me & treated him to a maccy-D's as a reward (and gave him a couple of quid to fuel up his 'ped)

I've written a guide & included pics for anyone new to the DiY game.
