Hi all

105 Dynamic JTD

In Feb this year I had an EOBD error. The code referred to a cooling fan relay. Via my warranty dealer, this was replaced but did not solve the problem.

A local Fiat dealer then had the car and diagnosed a broken earth wire leading to the EOBD. This was repaired at a cost of £210.

Now, less than 4 months later I have an exact repeat of the problem. The RAC diagnosed code P0481. I don’t know if this is the official code.

It has now been looked at by the same Fiat dealer, and this time they say it needs a new wiring loom at a cost of £724 fitted. (£350 parts + 5 hours labour.)

Can this be right on a 4.5 year old car?

How can the wiring be so bad a new loom is required?

How can a loom deteriorate in 4 months!!

Surely if a new loom is required they should have said so last time and save £210......

I am trying recourse for a discount as there is no way a repair should only last 4 months and then develop the same fault.

Does anybody have any theories/ ideas please?

Or any general comments/ advice?

Thanks all.

You are perfectly correct. This should not have occurred. Notwithstanding Fiat's shockingly bad warranty there is still Fiat customer care to contact. You are very clear with what happened and the indifferent and casual approach given to you by by your dealer in dealing with it.

Get in touch with Fiat customer care and explain the situation.

Remind them that Fiat has to improve its customer relations if it wants to survive, and bad publicity won't help. This might move them ;)

At all times remain calm, polite and clear. And be assertive.

No newish car should need this much spent on it when the owner has not abused it in any way.

An update.

I am afraid I am not technical so cannot provide the full details other than to say I am advised the full engine harness has failed.

On the good news front, I have a split on the cost with the Fiat dealer who repaired it 4 months ago and the dealer (non Fiat, but reputable,) who I bought from in November last year.

It is still costing £270, but I prefer the digits that way round, as opposed to £720!

Thanks anyway.
