Hi there, I have a 120 multijet on a 07 plate, and never have managed to get much more than 40 mpg. I work it out on my fill ups and it averages about 37mpg. I have had the vehicle from new and it now has 13,800 miles on it. Have just come back from north Devon, a run of 160 miles or so and that made no difference. I am not a fast / aggressive driver and also the engine is a bit gutless for a 120 brake unit.
Any clues???

Hi,my Doblo is 1.9 multijet MPV with 208,000 miles on the clock and gives me an average MPG of 62.5 with mixed conditions unfortunately it is not the fastest vehicle on the road under acceleration but great on Motorway speeds,
compared to my last vehicle which was a Renault Kango 1.5D 86 which had an incredibly zippy engine under acceleration in all gears but was too small a car for my needs.

Cannot imagine that return - the Hybrid cars are only getting 74 mpg and that is a manufacturers claim.

I would be interested to know over what distance travelled and how you work out the mpg - presumably it is not the gizmo computer thingy giving you that figure.

My 1.3 hi roof cargo is just short of 50 mpg over its life of almost 14000 miles with a very light right foot - nothing i try will get anymore out of it.

Yep, no matter how carefully I drive it, the thing will only ever do 38-40 mpg.
Its always been serviced when required and the tyres and brakes are spot on.
The only thing I am suspicious of is either the EGR valve sticking open,(no smoke from the tailpipe though), or the DPF is bunging up gagging the engine. But then again as I said earlier I have just had a run back from Devon at motorway speeds so it should have re-genned on some point on the way.
It will rev up till the limiter cuts in so the MAF sensor should be ok too.
The emissions system on this vehicle is way over complex for what it is. I think some post warranty re-engineering may have to take place here.

I can believe it, you can see from my sig I am getting 56.5 from 33,000 miles in a 1.2 petrol Panda.

We have a 07 Multijet 7 seater with 33k5 and it only ever avergaes 37mpg, which is not great. I was expecting nearer 50mpg. My 02 JTD with 113k does an average of 44mpg fully loaded and boot down hard - no mercy! So much for the new fangled multijet

if you go by what the trip computer says it will be doing 62.5 mpg easy, iv got an 06 reg 1.9 multijet van and never get less than a genuine 58/59 mpg although the computer says 65 to 68 mpg, that said i live in the sticks and hardly ever do any town work, plus i drive like an old woman, if you haer of any hold ups in north yorks its usually me at the front

But then again, a 1.2 engine pushing a coke can is likely to get a higher return than a 1.9 pushing a heavy, square lump.
For better economy, Fiat should have put a 3 litre engine in the dobbin.
Forgot to say, I average 45 on a brim to brim basis on a 2 gallon veg oil : 8 gallon diesel mix - 1.9jtd

I put my high MPG down to the fact that my Doblo 1.9 Multi has a well honed engine at 208,000 miles most modern diesels are not even run in till they've done at least 100,000.

Thats true, at 13,800 miles that engine will still be tight as a ducky's whatsit. Plus the fact its as about as aerodynamic as a brick. Perhaps I am expecting to much, it is a budget vehicle after all. I use motorbikes as my main mode of transport so dont clock up many miles on it. ho hum...

My 70 thou 1.9 JTD (100hp) gives between 40 and 48 whatever I do to it. Only if I stay in town, in winter, does it drop below these figures. And I drive it fast, and hard.

The new engines with DPFs and all the attendant gubbins are really putting me off. I'll wait till the new petrol engines arrive and see if a much smaller Fiat isn't a better bet economy-wise: true, I'll lose the space, but in future economy will be all.

I don't think Fiat Diesels give great economy anyway, but they do tend to be smooth and quiet, which is more than you can say for VW units.
