General Autocar likes the new Doblo

keep saying the doblo is very under rated, latest model brings it more into line with competitors but you never brought a doblo because of its looks but its practicality......anyone tell me what car can carry family of 5, sliding doors to stop kids opening door into cars at supermarkets, tons of room for dogs in back, loads of cubby holes along with that great shelf above head height, decent reliable 1.9 turbo diesel engine, over 50mpg (much more on long motorway journeys) , cheap tax and insurance....answers on a post card please.

And it's comfortable and fun to drive too.
And that's the old one.
Possibly the most underrated car out there. I can't see why people object to the looks when most cars are invisibly bland anyway, and in every sense forgettable.
It has a very smart interior too, at least mine does.
My only issue with the new one - which I will have a go in - is that it is expensive.

Thing is, I can see this heading down the same road as Landys.
Time was when landys were only driven by farmers, then the townies started buying them & so the designers started to smarten them up, make them look trendy etc & now loads of people drive them around town.
As the dobbin gets better looking you're going to have a lot of people ditching the behemoths @10mpg & buying the dobbins @ 50+mpg.
Then prices get even sillier & insurance etc will start to increase.

Agreed.

And the alternative, the Qubo, has got weak engines and seemingly weak suspensions too.

I'm now thinking about next year's Panda with the twin cylinder engine. I'd miss the space, but I'd love the economy.

Havent quite made my mind up why the car hasnt got the 1.3 multijet as the van does. Mind quite possible that it's a weak engine in a big car but it does have 90bhp.

Still looking forward to having a test drive soon and going to have one by summer i hope.

I wonder if there is some sort of behind the scenes thing going on & we are slowly being discouraged from listening to the Clarkson drivel - the guy is well over 6' tall and yet orgasms as he has to be shoehorned into some tiny sporty job. See him trying to drive it all hunched up and yet he still thinks they are great.
So all the youngies/trendies want/desire these fuel guzzlering idiot machines.
Time was when all you had in MPVs was the sharan & lookalikes as well as the espace etc. Now we have a whole raft of similar looking motors being touted as trendy.
And, let's face it, at a fraction of the cost to buy, insure and run of many of the competitors (sharan, espace and other so-called MPVs) who can blame people for joining the dobbin revolution?

Cant quite see the new Doblo becoming fiats best seller though can you!!! I mean its not the best looking thing in the world but the van is so much cleaner and really does look the part.
And its very dear i think, i mean i specced the 1.6 and the 2l multijets with all the bits and they came in at over £20,000 i know it doesnt mean that much as have been quoted about 16,000 fully loaded.
Cant see there being a 4x4 as there is a ltd market for one.
