Hi, wondering if anyone can help!!!! i have a fiat doblo disabled vehicle turbo diesel 03, it has done 46,000 miles. it has been left on my drive over the winter in perfect working order now it appears to have seized.....i put a new battery on it to no avail, the starter is ok, tried to tow start but it just won't budge......would an engine seize whilst it has been left parked up i have caught a mouse in the front, so could that have chewed any wires that would cause the engine to completely seize......i have read alot of things about these cars, and not all good......hopefully it won't need a new engine.... any ideas much appreciated....julie:confused:

Julie, sorry to hear of your problems but lets sort out one thing first...doblos are very reliable. Courier and taxi companies use them and even many Fiat technicians use them...dont believe everything you read;) Like the croma the doblo is a gem of a car that we like to try and keep secret.

Right when you say 'seized' you mean the engine is not turning over? Do the lights dim when you try and start it?

hi, thanks for your prompt reply, not really sure if the lights dimmed....or not but my partner just got under the vehicle yet again and it appears to have a crack in the alternator, not sure if this is relevant or not but if the alternator is jammed could this stop the whole engine from cranking over...much appreciated....thanks

promp reply! this is the fiatforum, best fiat site on the net ... your welcome.

yep the water/ice of the harsh winter can cause this, slip of the alternator belt and try to start it.

Alternator is swine to change...i put up some info on it in this section awhile back.

Hi, just got the alternator off.....the body is cracked in two nearly and the bearings are broken inside..........i hope this is the only problem....would this stop the engine from turning.....i'll ring motor suppliers 2mrw alot cheaper than a new engine.....i'll let you know how i get on....julie

hi, my alternator bearing on my 1.9 jtd collapsed and i could not start the engine, so before i removed the alternator i took the belt off and it started straight away, all be it without any power steering and the ignition light on, so i see no reason why yours should not start, they are a bit awkward to swap (drive shaft off, engine dropped) but as yours is already off thats half the battle, regards, geoff
