Unhappy Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235

I own a Fiat Doblo Dynamic 1.9JTD Estate Diesel

Recently I have noticed that when moving from stationary i.e. from Traffic lights, or out of a junction, roundabouts etc. the car can sometime lack severe power for a few seconds before returning to normal.

The car has been recently serviced and just after that I noticed the Engine Management Light came on intermitently, but now is on all the time.

After reading this forum for a thred on this matter, I decided to buy a code scanner which after connecting today to the vehicle shows one error code of P0235 (Turbo/Super Boost Sensor A Circuit Malfunction).

Can anyone tell me if this is an electrical sensor falilure? Where is this sensor located? and could this be related to the power loss problem I have expereinced?

I look forward to your valued reply.

Best Regards,

Andy

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235

Hi, I had that and 2 other parts replaced all of them were to do with the turbo and dpf, turned out if one didnt work it effected the others, I would personally take it to fiat, as you mite find like mine (they gave me the parts they replaced) they are burned out. You dont say if you lose power while the light is on ie turbo cuts out, if it does then you have the same problem and believe me its worth taking in , as i havent a clue where these items are in the engine and wouldnt have noticed them. Hope this helps

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235

Hi Andy,

I find the power loss is mainly when the car engine is cold and not up to full running temperature.

Saying that the light remains on all the time now, before my last service I did notice a slight loss of power almost everytime I stopped. So I thought this may be due to blocked jets or something and bought some cleaner which improved the problem.

Also I use to fill up the car at Tesco and noticed the problem after that, in fact, my mechanic showed me the fuel filter contained water which was probably from bad fuel.

The car is now using hi quality Diesel from Shell but that too has not made a difference.

My mechanic is going to check the sensors around the Turbo tomorrow, so if we find the fault I will post it on here.

Thanks for your valued information every little helps and if we cannot find the fault I will have to get Fiat to look at it.

Best Regards,

Andy (Blackpool)

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235

Hi Andy, I never use other types of diesel, have always used the shell V POWER, as it seems to work better on the car, perhaps its to do with the extra cleaners etc in the diesel , Im not sure. Hopefully your mechanic, will find the problem, if I recall on my one, the turbo sensor unit had burned out on one part of it, have got the units here still, if I can will take a pic and put them on here so you can see

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235

YEAAAA lol, right the first one is something to do with the fuel delivery, its the second one which might interest you as its the turbo sensor, I have taken a picture of it from underneath, not sure if you can see but the top centre is totally burned out, perhaps your mechanic can locate your one and take it out to have a look at it.

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235

Thanks again Andy for your valued help. The mechanic couldn't find anything and the light wouldn't reset either, the fault P0235 still persists. He is going to remove those parts tomorrow morning and have one last go before I book it into Fiat Service.

Without being rude, how much approx. did Fiat charge you to replace these sensors? just to give me an idea of what to expect if I have to book it into them.

My mechanic by the way is my brother who is an expert on Citreon cars but I think he is struggling a little with my little Dobbie, but we will see what happens in the morn, will keep you informed.

Best Regards,

Andy (Blackpool)

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235

Hi Andy, I had 3 parts replaced, although one part had nothing to do with the lite etc, they just noticed it was leaking some oil. Everything cost me 296, that included a diagnostic, but yours should be cheaper as it will most probably be just one of the above or both, so I would say no more than 240. When you book it in ask them do they have a specialist on the diagnostic thats worked on the doblos, as some are only specialists in certain things, I had there top man on mine and he found the faults plus the new one very quickly, goodluck

Thumbs up Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235 Resolved

Hi Andy,

Finally we have got to the bottom of the problem and the ECU light.

The turbo Boost sensor is located at the top back part of the engine (pictures attached) which evidentally controls the solonoid that opens the Waste Gate on the turbo.

After replacing this sensor, the engine management light still stayed on and the engine was missing like hell because of the build up of waste fuel and oil in the turbo.

We then re-connected the Code Computer to the system and did an erase and this reset the ECU turning off the management light - Thank God!

My mechanic took the car for a run using high revs to burn out the rubbish in the tubo and the car now runs much better with no more P0235 code to worry about.

The total cost of the switch was 26.00 incl VAT

By the way Andy, the picture on the left you kindly sent to me in one of your last postings was not the Turbo Boost Switch, it was the "Heater Control Unit" which the Pre-Heaters used for starting the engine are connected to. This control until has nothing to do with the Turbo sensor (so I am led to believe) but thatnks for that anyway, we know a little more about the gubbings now than we did before.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,
Whereabouts did you buy that switch from @ 26, please? ... Was it a FIAT dealer, and if so, do you happen to have the Part Number?

Many Thanks
Bob

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235 Resolved

Glad it got sorted andy, and the pic on the right is my turbo sensor valve not left lol, the one on the left was replaced as well as it was also at fault on my vehicle as it wasnt sending the signal to heat up the dpf to burn the soot, so I was told

Re: Doblo Engine Management Light Error Code P0235 Resolved

Hi Andy, that makes sense, not sure if I should get this replaced myself as although the Engine Management Light is out now, I still find the car hesitates sometimes from start before the turbo actually switches in. Its almost as though it is starving itself of fuel and then - whoosh! the turbo kicks in and off I go. I find it risky to pull out of a junction as the fault is so intermittent.

I have read your previous postings and this may just be the valve that needs replacing also.

Will speak to my mechanic and see what he thinks

Andy
