Why not go for the new Fox wing type as used by OzTent (www.oztent.com.au)... Looks very simple, but very effective!

I've got an 8 man tunnel tent (bedrooms either end, large door either side).
It might be possible to reverse the car into the door of the middle section.
If it's raining when I arrive, the first thing I do is erect my pop-up gazebo, 3m x 6m & up in seconds.
I then lay a tarp down to give me a dry floor to erect the tent under the gazebo.
In the summer it stops the tent getting too hot, in the wet it stops the rain. It is also easy to lift & move sideways to provide a sheltered eating area as well as somewhere to park the car for unloading/loading and a shelter for taking down the tent & the majority of the gazebo can be dropped from underneath, leaving the final packing to be done under the tailgate.
I can see a reason for wanting to incorporate the car to the tent but the costs are just so prohibiting. My biggest cost was the gazebo £80 ebay. The tent was off freecycle, as was much of the camping gear.
