Hi,
there is a way of finding very basic information from either the DVLA website or the direct.gov website but I can't find it now, the website is huge :(.
If you type in the registration number it tells you the model and if it's taxed or not and when it was taxed, but that's all.

If you can have a look at the car, the BHP should be on a label on the front door pillar on the driver's side. Mine is anyway.

A word of warning though, the 105bhp and the 120bhp model, which is the most powerful in the range, will only tow up to 1300kg.
Not much for a car/van that weighs over 2 tonnes.

All facelift 1.9 litre Diesel Doblos are either 105bhp or 120bhp so you'll know they can tow up to 1300kg.
The 85 bhp 1.3 Diesel can also tow up to 1300kg.

SWMBO has a 105bhp diesel. The main problem that I have found with it is that it does not like grass, especially when it is wet. There is very little traction!

My trailer is the back end of a BT van - and is very nose heavy
even when packed with spare furniture & putting the heaviest stuff behind the wheels.
Anyways, my 105bhp 1.9jtd was quite happy to drag this beastie along the motorway with little impact on fuel economy (the front overhang of the fibreglass body marries quite well with the height of the dobbie).
In fact, there were times when I really had to remind myself that I was towing & that I needed to slow down (kept wandering up to 70).
