Anyone able to confirm what, if any, problems there are if I take the battery off the car to do some work and then replace after say 2hrs? Do I lose any codes? Do I have to buy a 'gadget to keep the codes via the cigarette socket,( these usually have their own battery internally). Ta.

connect a battery charger across the terminals, then just lift battery clear, this will keep your memory on the stereo powerd up and you wont loose the code, unless you know your code in which case dont bother with all that hassle, just re-enter the code! regards, geoff.

Thanks 'pupplington'. I was more concerned with any E.C.U. coding. I should have made that clearer. My Dobbin is a 1.9JTD with a re programmed E.C.U. Any further info from you or anyone would be appreciated,.... thanks.

Programs in the ECU will be non volatile.
Ah but I see yours has been re-programmed, all I can say is it wouldnt be much good if it lost it every time the battery was disconnected. Most of these upgrades just strap a new ROM chip over the top of the original. Should be ok.

well, as far as i know you will not loose any settings as the new software would have been flashed into ecu just like the original software, if in doubt, check with the company that did it, they usually keep the old software anyway, it would be totally bizarre loosing the settings, what if the battery went completely flat? regards, geoff.
