Cool Fiat Doblo JTD MPV re Glow Plugs

Hi, I own 2004 model and the glow plug warning light has just started flashing. Have already replaced them twice over last 4 years at cost each time E200. Do I need to replace them now or will it wait until annual service due Feb 2009. Also is this a problem with Doblos or normal wear & tear? Thanks

Thumbs up Re: Fiat Doblo JTD MPV re Glow Plugs

Have to agree with Pupplington. Mrs_G's Cargo had the glow plug light flash after starting this time last year. The van still started and ran fine.

Long story short: Went in for cambelt service. Asked them to change the glowplugs at the same time. 1 plug striped the threads in the head. Head off repair needed. 1 week off the road and a bill for over 1000.

Next time the light flashes it will be ignored until the van displays genuine problems with a cold start.

i had this problem with my doblo, got it checked a the fiat dealer and they said the relay was at fault.
I think the initial fault is with the relay and this in turn wears the plug out.
My plug take about 15 seconds to warm up in the cold, im going to replace them both.

Re: Fiat Doblo JTD MPV re Glow Plugs

Did you say you paid 200 for the glow plug change?
This sounds like an awful lot.
Ive just been quoted 5.50 +vat for a plug for an 04 doblo.
I know this dosent include the fitting but it cant be that hard if you have the right tools.
An independant mechanic will surely fit it for 100 top whack?

my peugeot 806 i had before my doblo had this problem, i swapped the glow plugs and they only lasted 4 months, on further investigation i found even after the glow plug light had gone out on the dashboard, there was 12v still present at the plugs, so i think the relay was staying on to long reducing the life span , that and they were dead cheap, they are easy on the 806, but look mutch more difficult on the doblo which is why i have left mine dispite the warning light flashing for the last 21 months with no starting problems, even in this extreme cold weather. regards, geoff.
