Have just bought a 04 doblo 64K and have experienced problems starting it over the last couple of days. Day 1 - it started then cut out. I then drove it for a while till about half temperature - the engine management light then came on, this was resolved when I restarted it and it drove fine for the remainder of the day. Day 2 following a colder night, the van started then cut out several times - later I took it to fiat specialists who ran diagnostics - which threw up some funny readings - transpired that the sensor plug wasn't attached to the fuel pump, this was reattached. This morning started OK. I then restarted it (before fully warm), it then cut out several times as on day 2 , left for about 10 minutes cooperated but sounded pretty iffy even when running at full temperature. Later did a similar act cutting out and stalling – felt relieved to get back home in the end..

Any ideas – current symptoms. runs rough, and seems to accelerate decelerate unsteadily, cuts out when revs drop but this improves with driving (possibly because diesel is warmer?) there is no smoke from the exhaust. Has had a recent change of fuel filter and apparently the pump has received attention – I’m thinking injection system:(

I'm no expert but it does sound like a fueling problem. If this started since a filter change perhaps a new filter of known good quality should be tried.

thanks Niall - have bought some sp50 to clean things out, any thoughts? - guess I'll have to wait and see:eek:

We had the same problem with our Doblo 1.9 Diesel. It turned out to be the condenser. Hope this helps :)

Hi Hogwart,

I have the same problem. Fiat have sed its the fuel pump which is worth more than the car. have you had any luck with the advise below?

Hi T14086 and all,

My Fiat is great, I just have this issue with the starting and running. I have had quotes for the replacement of the fuel pump from £1000 plus vat up to 1853 plus vat.

This all started after the engine management light came on, Fiat changed fuel pertentiomiter. The car did not run right once I had collected and it has been back to Fiat on and off for 3 months. Fiat have had to call the tech services department who advised to change fuel pump and ECU. They could not tewll which one whould fix the problem.

I have had Fiat and an eletronic engineer run a computer report which says rotor head timming fault. I have spoken to Lucas (delphi) at two workshops in the south who say it is unlikly to be the pump and to check the electric connections. This has been done 3 time. first time the revs went all over the place, engine ran very poor and kept cutting out with the same msg, rotor head timing. Two other times can not fault even with moving the wires to the pump and disconecting the plug. Once test has been completed and car run around for on hour or so. Next time to try and start it may or may not or it runs and then cuts out. Any Ideas?

had the same problem with 02 model. it could be the sending unit off the fly wheel. mine was starting and stopping like that, fitted the new sensor and its been fine ever since. (flywheel sending unit/ crankshaft sensor)
