Technical Fuel Consumption on a Doblo

Technical Fuel Consumption on a Doblo

Is that a 5 or 7 seater just out of curiosity ? I have taken out the back seats out of my 7 seater 1.9 Doblo Family and now its a 5 seater but with one lovely big boot. As it rarely gets used as a 7 seater I will leave it as that.
Just the 5 seater....I mainly carry 'stuff' rather than people. I love the space, although I wish the front seat would fall forward, like I believe it does on the van version.

Very chuffed with the Dobby overall. Good fun to drive. Strong engine as others have said.

Getting 40 to 42 mpg driving carefully in the 56 - 65 mph category fully loaded with speedway bike and all the gear.

2001 1.9 SX with 95K+ on the clock.

I keep reading about the great mpg to be had on the earlier 1.9 JTD engines. The multijet 1.9 seems to have gone backwards when it comes to economy :(.

I was reading the IAM magazine yesterday (an old copy in the doctors waiting room, I'm not a member) and there was a letter from a Doblo owner complaining that he couldn't average more than 39mpg in a 1.9 multijet. If IAM drivers can't do it, then it proves to me that I'm not just being lead footed as they must be some of most careful drivers on the road.

Hi Guys, You might remember me posting here from about 3 years ago while I still had the 2002 1.9 JTD Doblo.

I`ve been reading these fuel consumption posts with interest as I remember getting around 57MPG on a regular basis. What`s happened? are the new engines now 16 valves? is there extra emissions gear on?

the 1.9 is still 8v but Fiat seem to have sacrificed economy for power with the multijet engine, although the JTD might also be a torquier engine too.

The problem is that the brochures tell you you'll be getting 48mpg (combined) but in reality if you're averaging 40mpg you're doing very well.

I must admit that the 1.9 family model is the worst for mpg as it's 120bhp and it's the heaviest (just over 2 tonnes) due to that bulky rear bench seat.

I take it you've got a five seater ?

I Have taken the back seats out of my seven seater 1.9 Family as someone suggested the weight might improve things. Also I am the proud tenant of an allotment so with all my gardening stuff, it was necessary. However, I am only getting 350 miles on a tank, maximum as deduced from the last time I went to the garage to fill up; that also involved a trip down to Swindon and back (80 miles), on the motorway.

I've got the 7 seater and mine averages 38mpg :(

Rich more inclined to think its not the weight but the fuel map of a 120bhp version i have my 06 105bhp cargo full most of the time and its never dropped below 44mpg!

maybe its a fuel map issue maybe a remap might iron it out

about 43-45 from my 2007, 120bhp Doblo (9500 miles) - and improving. Diesels don't really bed in until way after 20.000 miles. I am told that a ecu remap will cause insurance problems (my company - RAC won't allow it)

RAC is AXA if Im not mistaken! Doesn't surprise me.

I used to be with sainsburys with my cars until i also got the doblo cargo for business ,they wouldn't touch it as its a LCV, but I said the same vehicle with more windows and seats you will insure(mpv) ,yes she said but its a car :bang:

I said no its not its a ruddy van with glass and seats

apparently the "computer said no":D

I've got an 08 Doblo 1.9 Multijet Family (120 bhp) with the 2 extra seats removed, no roof bars & tyres at correct pressure but I still only got 36 mpg on the motorway doing 60mph all way from London to Bristol. Really unimpressed with the consumption at the moment!

Admittedly, I've only done 1500 miles in it so far but how long could I be waiting for the engine to be run in & be getting a better mpg?

Also, can anyone tell me where I could get an ecu remap & would it make a real difference to the mpg? I live in North East London.

Would really appreciate any advice on this!

Cheers

Dom

We have just returned from a 1200 mile round trip to Scotland
(Family 1.3L multijet) managed to average 42.5 Mpg loaded up with
2 adults 3kids camping gear + roof box. Not bad for a fully loaded 7-seater I think.

the 120 is terrible for fuel consumption. Mine's done 11,000 miles now and even driving carefully I get no more than 40mpg on average.
My over all average is 39mpg.

The trouble is, if you wan't the 7 seater you either have the 1.3 or the 120bhp models. I think they should have offered a 7 seat option on the 105bhp model.

Surely that can't be right can it? Mines the 105 1.9jtd & I average 40 around town, have yet to do a nice run at a steady pace & without the kitchen sink:rolleyes:

2005 1.9jtd Doblo Active consistently gives around 49mpg in the winter and 55mpg at this time of the year. This is local roads and motorway but I do not drive in town at peak times.

Thanks for letting me know Rich - with the way the price of diesel's going, I'm going to have to think about selling.......

Hi, I have an 05 cargo 1.9jtd sx, 65Kmiles, I get over 55 mpg. I do live in Norfolk where just popping to the shops is a 15 -20 mile round trip though. I use it well laden with tools and often have 650kg of sand in it. My car is a scenic 1.9dci, also 105bhp, but that only gets 48mpg.
The Dobby is by far the most frugal vehicle I have ever owned and I have a long history of diesel driving. I can't help but be surprised when I fill up and do the maths, especially when it looks so unstreamlined.....

Hi folks, we`ve got a 54 plate 1.9jtd Dynamic, it managed 52 mpg for the last tank full, although the trip computer thing said 61mpg. I worked this out by the miles done divided by litres put in method... must have a light foot! :D
