2002 Doblo suffering from gear-grating on selecting reverse & a notchy gear change.
Wanted to bleed clutch hydraulic system but master cylinder bleed nipple is a blank. Have asked local Dealer about pressure bleeding & was quoted £40. However, once they took vehicle in it took 10 minutes for them to come back with it needs a new clutch & pressure bleeding the system at this stage would only make matters worse?!
Don't understand their logic, tho' I've been suspicious ever since they tried to avoid a warranty claim after 3 months!!
Is this a new clutch job? How do they know after just a few minutes & without trying to bleed the system that new clutch is the problem?
Can you refer me to an explanation of how to pressure bleed without specialist equipment, please?

Thanx - I think!
However, before going that far I'd simply like to try & pressure bleed the clutch hydraulics .......... can someone point me to how that's done without using a main agent, pleez?
Brian
PS Brill vehicle! My wife - yes it's hers & I get to drive it now & again - would have another Doblo tomorrow, if only they still did the Yellow 1 ........ it doesn't matter what else it has/has not, it MUST be yellow!!!
See I went for the JTD SX, for the room & flexibility, for the height & visibility ........... the good lady went for ......... Yellow!! ....... but now she loves it so much, she won't consider anything else.

I think you mean bleeding the clutch backwards, from the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder up to the master. Is that right?
If there's a bleed nipple on the slave cylinder you can use a large syringe, I used a 50ml (bladder?) syringe. Without the needle of course. You might be able to get one from a chemist.
Then attach a pipe used for brake bleeding to the syringe, draw up the clutch fluid into the syringe and open the slave cylinder bleed nipple.
Gently push the air bubbles out of the end of the pipe, then attach the pipe to the bleed nipple.
Make sure the master cylinder cap is off then start pushing the fluid into the slave cylinder whilst watching the level in the master reservoir.
When the level gets too high you can shut off the bleed nipple (before removing the pipe) and draw some out with the syringe.
Repeat this process until you're sure no more air bubbles are appearing in the reservoir.
If this sounds ok to you I can post some pics if you like (y).
I've never needed to do this on the Doblo but I did it on my Peugeot and it worked perfectly.

I wanted yellow too but when I saw the orange one I was hooked.
Couldn't your wife be persuaded to have an orange Doblo?

Rich
Orange ......... probably no chance, but I'll give it a try!!
Bleeding hydraulics (!) the cylinder under the battery has a dummy nipple ......... (thinks, why the heck would a manufacturer do that, isn't it as easy to install a working one OR have nothing at all?)
I'm making these enquiries 2nd hand - to print off for my tame mechanic (who does get paid!) & friend, George.
Your pics would be great if this still all makes sense to you?
V many thanks again
Brian :)

Oh I see, there's no bleed nipple on the slave cylinder.
How the heck do they bleed the clutch then .
I was trying to have a look at it just now but I cba taking the bash plate off.
It's not worth me posting pics of my homemade clutch bleeder if there's no bleed nipple anywhere.

All I can suggest is getting friendly with your local Fiat dealer and asking "how the heck do you bleed the clutch?"

Sorry I wasn't able to help,

Rich
Tried that ........ & they recommended a new clutch!
But it doesn't slip, it doesn't grab, it has loads of travel & the mechanic from nothing to gain says it ain't the clutch.
Dealer offered to pressure bleed the system for £40 ........ then came back with the sharp intake of breath & "you need a nw clutch" without even trying! (n)

PS: Orange no longer an option on Fiat Website ....... how the heck the expect to sell vehicles with the drab colours they have on offer now ............. beyond me!!

As I said, I originally wanted the yellow one but they'd stopped doing it for the face lift model.
My dealer said he hasn't sold many orange ones, in fact, I think he's only sold one...mine :D.
If it's like that all over the country it's no wonder they dropped it :(.

There were some other colours that I quite liked, particularly one I think they called sand which reminded me of one of the old British Leyland colours from the 70's but I see they've stopped that too.

You're right, all the colour options are really boring now. The only one I'd go for is black.

Have a look on the Stilo how to guides, the clutch bleeding procedure is posted there. It took me a while to find.
