Hi All,

Got a bit of a head scratcher here and looking for a bit of guidance from the forum. I have a 54 Doblo 1.3 multijet. Recently the glow plug light stays on after starting for approx minute or so. This morning the o'gal started fine just as she always does had her ticking over for a while turned her off. My air filter box has broken around the fixing and I am trying to find a replacement but in the meantime decided to see if I could do a temp repair on it. Removed the filter box from the fixing lug just to check underneath in case there were any more cracks. reassembled and cleaned everywhere down while I was at it. NOw the engine will not start, turns over but not a hint of it catching. I have noticed that the glow plug warning light goes out virtually immediately the ignition is turned on. All other warning lights seem fine, I have checked every connection I can find, checked the fuse for the glow plugs all to no avail. Has anyone got any ideas as I don't have a great deal of hair left.

Has anybody used the downloaded manuals that are avialable through this site www.electronicmanuals.co.uk as it doesn't list the 1.3mj?

Thanks

Re: Won't Start - Check this first

Here is a tip for you all. Should you ever have cause to remove the fuel cut-off switch which is mounted behind the lower trim panel in the drivers footwell, make sure you press the top of the unit after refitting just in case you inadvertantly activated it whilst removing it. It makes a tremendous difference..............:o:eek::eek:

By the way the electronic workshop manual DOES NOT feature the 1.3 MJ so if anybody wants the Doblo WS manual (without 1.3MJ) for ½ price, let me know.

At my last service I was told that I would need a Cam Belt change at the next service. (This was by my local Fiat Dealer ) I have just discovered that the 1.3 MJ doesn't have a belt it is fitted with a chain which doesn't need checking until 105k miles. This must be a good earner for some!

they're having a laugh aren't they? Are they really quoting for cam belt changes on the 1.3???

thanks for the info btw (y)

My old Mazda pickup had a chain - had a problem with the oilways to the tensioner clogging up - the oil pressure was supposed to help the tensioner keep the chain under tension.
Because I bought it 2nd hand, I had no idea the previous owner didn't know what oil was, the treacle I scooped out created havoc to the whole engine (inc. allowing the timing chain to slip a few teeth & completely ruin the head(n)).
The spare lump I had to put in used a timing belt but the same tensioning system - before the lump went in I made sure all the oilways were clear.

So, although the chain will wait 105k miles, still worth checking the tensioner is doing its job (even if it is a pulley on a spring).

I`m using Mobil 1, with 6,000/6 months changes to look after that chain on the Multijet.
