Does anyone else get the dealers advert stuff in the post. Last one I got had a Special Edition Doblo Malibu. Metallic Blue with silver wing mirrors, Grill surround, Body coloured lower front bumpers and the new alloy wheels on their website accessory page. Front grill now looks even more lke the new Audi gaping fish gob. I'm hatching a plan to swap the badge for the 4 rings and take it down the road to Dulwich Village, just to see the reaction from the 'ladies who lunch' in their Q7s and X5s.

I think the Malibu has been on sale in south America or maybe other European countries for a while now,
Is this it?

I've always thought that the new shape Doblo looks like a big 4x4 from a distance, it is a bit Audi-like at the front though.

hmm, not that similar after all when you see them together. Oh well at least Ken won't be charging me a fortune to drive it.

Don't know if you were listening to Radio 5 about the £25 London congestion charge? A chap called 'Orlando' who ran a flower shop trying to justify why he needed a Jeep Cherokee to deliver flowers around London! He said "its the only thing with enough space". He should join the queue for a Doblo but guess he won't;).

people are such snobs. If you have a delivery business, why not get a van, or as you say Pete, if he needs it to double up as a car the Doblo is perfect. I suppose he can't live without 4 wheel drive and leather seats either :nutter:.

Yeah, 'cause that 4 wheel drive is essential in London...all them steep, muddy mountains & rivers & boggy fields to negotiate

I remember a time when the only people who drove fourbys were farmers.

About 16 years ago I used to drive a pickup (helped with my house renovation & a little cash in hand work I was doing) and loads of insurers refused to insure me because I wasn't a tradesman - yet nowadays, you see all those double cab pickups everywhere.
I really feel that all fourbys should have a heavy tax slapped on them to discourage town/city use. Financially squeeze them off the roads (in much the same way as they use their bullbars to intimidate & squeeze us off the roads.

Just been to our Fiat dealer, and a chap there said there was to be a new model around september this year.

Is the 'Malibu' the one which he is refering?
Or is there something else in the pipe line?

I notice new models of the Kangoo, partner, berlingo, and even the wagon on its way.
Even VW has now got a van based car thingy!

It could be the Malibu is a special edition to shift the current Doblo model as a "new" Doblo's set to launch in 2009.
The new Doblo will be longer to differentiate it from the upcoming Fiorino Panorama mini-MPV.

Sorry Rich not found any pics yet of "new" Doblo.
I
t'll not be based on the fiorino but will keep it's place in the lineup as a "value-for-money" mid size (but longer!) mpv.

I believe it's going to be a re-nosed version of the Berlingo/Partner things, rather than a total Fiat as it is now. Indeed, it'll be a rather larger van than the soon to appear Fiorino - which is again a badged version of a multi-marque generic, but assembled for Fiat, in Turkey, like the Doblo!
The way things are going there soon aren't going to be very many true single make cars at all, most of them will use a host of shared floorpans, engines, gearboxes and other components. Consequently, emotional attachment to any single make will need a real suspension of disbelief. People will get very cross defending their choices of car, when in fact they will just be buying a version of a 'world' car designed and assembled from a whole host of international bits...let the fun begin:D

It would be nice to see a 'world car', at least then there could be some real competition on prices - in much the same way as the Sharan, Galaxy & Alhambra all roll off the same production line.
It's about time we saw the development of the engine whereby one part fits all rather than having to quote a fifteen digit serial number & waiting five weeks for the bits to come in. We might actually see garages treating customers like every one is important to them rather than an irritation, especially if we could buy a genuine part cheaper & off the shelf from Car parts R us in preference to traipsing to the partless dealers.

Kinda going back about 30 years, when the block and its contents were, generally, unique, but all the other bits came from outside suppiers, and were not desigend for the car, but used for it. Good concept, but I am not sure how easy it would be to go that route today, without costing vast amounts of money to make the standard part fit the job.
Unless, of course, we went even farther back and had the various major units each produced by specialist.
