Technical New Battery

Na na, 15yrs changing batteries with the motor running to keep codes stored & not a problem yet. A healthy battery voltage would fluxulate around the 13.60 point however most cars charge at 14.20. If an alternator climbs above the 14.20 up towards 16-18v mark it's a over charging issue. 99.9 of the charging voltages I check are never above 14.40. When you get an over charging alternator it will pull the battery voltage up to it's point regardless of the battery voltage, for example a while ago I set the probes of the multimeter on the battery terminals connected & got 19v!!! When I disconnected the + with the engine running the battery voltage (stand alone) fell back to 13.60 but the alternator was still putting out 19.
