£79.75 for 6 months or £145 for 12 months on a 1.9 GPS MJet... not too bad. :(

And 5 moths later I get a reminder... £145 (n)

Why is it some 1910cc diesels have lower CO2 emmissions?

My 1.9 MJet is cleaner than my daughters 1.5 petrol Suzuki Swift... Fact.

Mine's an '03, which means it has 100bhp and is dirtier and less economical than the subsequently tweaked engine, which came in late '03 or '04 if I remember and has 105hp.

Since the 'old' format engine is more polluting - is it oxides of nitrogen? - I pay more road tax than the newer cars.

Sorry not to bother to research it more precisely but the substance remains true.

my 06 1.9 multijet cargo van is a euro 4 LGV and cost me last week only £120 for 12 months.

Think its cheaper than the mpv because its a LGV.

Quite surprised really:)

Just got my reminder for £145. Was £140 last year :(

Oil $135 a barrel this morning.

Do you feel things are getting out of control?? :(

Read a few interesting articles yesterday inthe business section on orange news website that said US crude could reach as high as 150 + dollars but by autumn would fall back considerably as new oil fields are coming on line and the fact that the chinese have apparantly been stock piling diesel due to the olympic games, so once they are over and with the down turn in there economy taking hold things should at the start of next year be a lot better apparantly!!

At present the cost of a barrel of US crude is unsustainable for the world economy, the powers that be know this so things will have to change.

The reason diesel is so dear is simply supply and demand, its easier to refine but theres been such a increase in diesel powered cars that the infrastructure ( diesel refineries ) hasn't kept up.

Grinn and bear it for now and be glad that at least we are getting good mileage

or make an investment in this bit of kit

bio diesel processor

I'm seriously thinking about it.

have visions of you standing in your garden where your shed USED TO BE !!!:D covered in black soot, hair singed holding the charred instruction manual in one hand and a can of tesco veg oil in the other:D

On a seroius note however yes looks interesting .

Wonder what the local EPA might think about us all having mini refieries in our garden sheds;)

Does anyone know what the most cost effective petrol car is on the market?
I read somewhere that PSA are making a new super advanced 1.0 petrol engine in varying power outputs fron 60 to 100 bhp capable of upto 85mpg:)

This is really the only answer the more miles per gallon the cheaper the cost not just to your pocket but the planet!

don't know about petrol cars but I think one of the cheapest cars to run, including fuel and tax costs, is the VW Lupo Diesel.

edit;
I'm totally wrong, as usual.
They don't seem to make the Lupo any more, they do one called the Fox which only has a petrol engine, but I'm sure that would be cheap to tax.
The Polo has a 1.4 Diesel. I think this was the car that came into the £0 road tax bracket.

And should the cost of crude oil go dow, do you honestly believe that the money grabbing swines in Government will drop prices at the pumps? NO because whilst the price per litre is £1.30, Gordy & his brown-nosed chums are raking in almost 98p. My car takes about 50 litres per fill.
Multiply this by number of cars on the road and... you do the math.

Mine was £165 for my 2002 1.2 petrol. I didn't realise the 1.9 diesel would be cheaper to tax

Saw a truck on the motorway a few days ago. The owner had put a large sticker on the fuel tank that said 'Gordon Browns Piggy Bank'. I buy approx 11,000 litres of diesel a year to run my Iveco van, the way Gordon is taxing my main 'raw material' I may soon be better off closing my business and sitting on the dole, lets face it, with the amount of tax Brown is making on fuel he can easily afford it!

Read somewhere that the Saudis are producing more oil to meet increased demand & that the price of a barrel has dropped.
Diesel round here is 131.9 - still increasing.
Something about the £6 gallon in the saturday Mail, they were saying that the average price for diesel is 131.8, so just under the £6 gallon - when was the last time you saw a forecourt advertising fuel with a .8p tag?

I don't think garages should be allowed to sell fuel in tenths of a penny, it's ridiculous. no one else does it.
They just use it to try and make the fuel look cheaper by putting .9 at the end.
It's either £1.31 or £1.32, where does the .9 come from? Bloody theives.
If you put exactly 11 litres in your tank, they couldn't charge you £14.509p, they'd round it up to £14.51.
Maybe we should start demanding all the tenths of a penny back at the till. That would wind them up.

:D

In one of the Superman films, a guy discovers wage cheques are rounded off so there are thousands of tenths of pennies getting lost in the system & he diverts them all to his bank account & makes a tidy sum.
It's about time the Government had a revamp[ of coinage anyway. Nobody is fooled by the "under a tenner" costing £9.99 or the fuel not yet reached £1.32 (because it's 131.9).
We don't really need the shrapnel anymore, just 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 - so prices could be £9.90 or £10 (and, let's face it - it'll be £10)

Check your bill - they round down to nearest penny.

I was under the impression my 1.3 M-Jet cargo met Euro 4 spec's meaning £120.00 tax.

DVLA seem to think it does not meet so £180.00 tax.

Spoke to Fiat who were fairly certain it does and I am in the process of getting a Euro4 certificate which will allow me to tax at £120.00

Any other members affected by this?

Wrote to my MP on this one - 3 emails and no meaningful reply so far - what a surprise.....(Labour)

I think you will find that regardless of the Euro4 'badge' it is a van and all goods vehicles start at £180 regardless of whatever engine is fitted :bang:- Let me know if you find anything different please.

- it is another one of GB's stealth taxes and that is probably why my MP fails to answer!! :yuck:
