I have just had a new cam belt fitted to my non turbo Doblo for £186.
It was fitted with a Fiat cam belt kit but not at a Fiat garage. The man said the cam belt is still guaranteed for 5 years or 72,000 miles. Is that correct?

I had a new cambelt fitted on my 1.9D which is good for 60,000 miles

He did a full service cambelt etc fuel filter oil filter checked the brakes gearbox level etc etc £155 with parts ( But not genuine Fiat parts) I think thats why youve paid more

I just paid 330 pounds for a 72000mile service and an MOT at an independant garage and they've quoted another 260 pounds for a cam belt on my 1.9JTD. 92 quid for the kit and 135 pounds fitting! First time I've used them, gonna get a quote from my old mechanic, might be worth driving 125miles to get it done. Could see family at the same time I suppose...

Seems expensive to get any work done but the car's so damn reliable that I hardly ever get any done!

Garages tend to have set prices for jobs. I think they base them on how long it would take the most junior lackey to do the job whilst reading the Haynes manual.

These inflated prices are becoming more apparent now that you can have work done away from main dealers without affecting your warranty.
On local radio we had a BMW specialist advertising their special offer for servicing. Later on, we had an independant giving a similar offer "using factory trained technicians...without affecting your warranty" and they were half the price of the main dealer.

There does seem to be a set time for doing the job at an independant garage. Got it done at a different garage fo 219 pounds all in. Lower labour rate, travelled 120 miles to have it done though (family live next door and needed to see them anyway before any one says "false economy".)

When it comes to dealers though, the timings may all be the same but labour charges are colossal! As it's a van derived car the labour charges are a mite unreasonable.
