Hi All,

I can see this isn't the most popular area of fiat central ;)

I have a Doblo Cargo JTD SX which is in need of another pair of front tyres. I'm looking for something to replace the Goodyear GT2s it came with. I want something that will give more grip, i realise this will be at the expense of longevity, but i can live with that. Just trying to increase the grip in the wet, which is pretty poor with these GT2s IMO.

Secondly, both sets of tyres i've gone through have worn very heavily on the inside edge, despite Fiat claiming they have had the tracking adjusted (which i'm doubting). Is this something that is just affecting mine, or are you all finding this?

Cheers, Dave :)

My tracking is OK but my tyre wear is quite high. I replaced with Pirelli P3000 & they seem OK. I was told not to go for cheap tyres because of all the weight at the front. I have read on an internet site of a Doblo needing new tyres at 7,500 miles. A possible cause of tyre wear on the edge might be excessive speed on cornering.

That could be a possibility ;) :I

SpunkyM - It did used to be in my Coupe forum signature, but all space taken up with modifications, and most recently updates on my engine disaster :(

So, Pirelli P3000? Have you found these any better than the GT2s? Any other brands to go for?

I'm finding that the tyres are lasting about 18,000 miles which I think is pretty good considering the fairly high power (for a van) it puts through the wheels.

Just a quicky to confirm your comments about tyre wear.

We've got a 1.9JTD MPV and the inside of the tyres wore to illegal within 9,000 miles.

The next set are going the same way, and tracking has been checked twice.

No such probs here. We've got alloys? make any difference? probably not. Only changed our standard bridgestones at 30000 miles and fitted michelans.

What the hell was that! common cry of other road users as the doblo over takes up a hill fully laiden at 90

My dads front ones on his ELX have just been replaced at 7,000 miles! been to fiat for a service and had it checked, Apparently no problem?

Surely Fiat are trying to cover-up a massive problem that would be expensive to resolve on a recall?

Please consider the fact that fiat has wedged a very power ful engine into the doblo when it is in jtd form. It is all to easy to make the front wheels spin under power. So maybe the wheels are not big enough for the power the car produces.

"Brickfoot" I work in the industry, and something of this nature would not be deemed worthy of recall.

Fiat wouldn't be worried anyway because the vehcile OE's always get the suppliers to pay for recall's!

"futuredoblo" ours are alloys as well. Doblo's definitely have an issue on inner edge tyre wear. When I went to get them changed the bloke said he had seen the same on 2 other Doblo Cargo's.

When you look at them on the road they seem to have a wide track and the wheels appear to toe in at the top angled outwards at the bottom. Maybe this was to combat instability experienced when developing the doblo. I very much doubt that fiat would say anything if there was a problem. They were very hush hush when they took ours off us for a electronic throtle problem, seemed to have it on the jack for ages.

I think it may have been my post on a tyre forum refered to with the 7,500 mile tyres (pirelli p3000 reinforced) as referred to by Doblo.
I put the same tyres on the front again (Doblo JTD) and ran with 3 bar all round.
I then got 8,000, but the tyres wore much more evenly across the full width of the tread.
I may have an answer to tyre wear.....
There are 175/70 R 14 car tyres on some doblo`s apparantly, these are the weakest.
Standard on most Doblo`s are the 175 70 R 14 REINFORCED.....
But the Doblo Cargo extra capacity has 175 70 R14 95/93s as standard
Well the 95/93S is a strength beyond "reinforced" they are 6 ply rather than 4 ply tyres.
The 95/93S also has just over 9 mm of tread.. rather than about 7mm on the reinforced.
So i had 4 of these Pirelli CityNet 175 14 95/93 S fitted
and I`m running them at 3bar all round.
The ride is slightly firmer, but handling is fine, perhaps even better.
Just be sure they fit the 95/93S as there are the weaker "reinforced" also in the CityNet commercial range :)

I agree about using RF tryes I do over 20k a year fully mostly motorway and regular runs to france fully loaded both ways and get about 25k form my Firestones RF on the front. For future referance how much are the Pirelli citinet a corner I budget for £50 tops for a Firestone.

Not to counter the opinion on Doblo's, for I have had a fair few problems with my Doblo, but tyres and uneven wear have not been one of them. First owner did 30,000 miles on one set over two years and I have done 10,000 in six months and plenty of life left on Pirelli P300's.

I intend fitting GoodYear Eagle Ventura next time as beleive they are excellent for wet grip, noise and especially wear.

One thing I am aware of after having my Doblo in pieces is to be wary of knocking your wheels against or riding over kerbs. The Doblo's front end suspension geometry is good, but being based on Fiat Euro Car platform, is just that a car and not a van/truck. Its not as robust as one might think, treat it too roughy and you pay the price.

Hi

I’ve done a bit a research on tyres for the dobo and come up with a perspective (right or wrong)

My BridgeStones on the front 175/70 14 (on alloy rims) have only 5mm after 10000 miles

Therefore I recommend go for a winter tyre , lots of tread, go to 185/70 or 195/70 14 ….

I hope to be replacing the tyres (all 4) with Matador mps500’s or mp57's (both avail in Uk)

heck there're cheap.....

My 1.9 jtd got through a set of tyres before 1st service and another before second. Dealership claimed tracking was ok. After nagging they sent it to alignment specialist under warranty and current set have lasted 18000 miles and still have life left in them

I'm now on my 3rd set of fronts both sets lasted 22,000. I decided to go for Avon tyres instead of Pirelli as they were on offer at National Tyres at £75 for two.

hi ive had the same problem having noe fitted third set of fronts today at 34K miles. had tracking checked and they seem to think the problem is excessive camber. the doble is already quite high at 3 degrees and seem like it may be more. i am due a service at 3 years so am going to get dealer to check. mine had worn a lot on the inside 1/4 of the tread.

My 2006 1.9 jtd sx Cargo came with Bridgestone Duravis 410's 185/65 r15 and have to say done over 5000 miles now laden and handling is excellant and wear, well not even took the shine off yet. These are 92T reinforced which were designed especially for light vans to give durability, grip and handling of a car.

Remember folks the doblo is primarily a van first mpv second and I think the lower speed rating 88H on the mpv and some of the car type tyres Fiat recommend aren't up for the job.
Had a set of Goodyear GT2's on a peugeot 306 great on that car but on the bigger bouncy Doblo nah!

If you can find them you won't be dissapointed but a sod to find, apparently they are also made in Turkey along with our Doblo's!!:)
