Hi

I am new to the Forum and would be grateful if someone could please offer some advice for the following :

I own a 2004 Doblo with 20500 miles on the clock. Whilst driving the vehicle last Sunday, there was a bang from the engine. I stopped the car and turned off the engine. I checked the engine - there was no smoke, just alot of oil. I was able to start the car at the first attempt and drive less than a mile to the nearest fiat dealer with no problems.

The dealer has advised that there was no oil and a new engine is now needed at a cost of £2000. Perfect timing as the warranty expired 2 months ago!!

I told him the oil warning light did not come on. He said it doesn't have to light up! What is the point of having it then?

Please help. If I was able to drive the car to the dealer with no problems, why do I need a new engine? Is it not possible to replace certain parts?

Thankyou

I would advise to get an independent inspection of the damage to determine whether you need a new engine or not. I believe the AA and such do these kinds of things.

Even if the car was under warranty they wouldn't pay out if the engine had no oil in it unless it was caused by a major leak of another faulty part - if it was the case that the oil wasn't checked and topped up they would refuse to pay out.

Sounds like a pistons come through the block especially if theres oil everywere . But it would have no compression and be running on 3 cylinders so like Ozzie says get an independant inspection dont take the dealers word for it.The bang would be the piston coming off the crank and hitting the engine block might not have blown a hole cud just need a new piston and gudgeon pin> Crank may also be damaged but you need the check.

I had this at 21000 miles with my first doblo. When the head was xrayed there was a fault with the casting so the dealer told me. cost over 3500 for a new full engine, done under warranty with a lot of shouting and toys being thrown out of the playpen by the dealer. not that it was his money he was dealing with was it?
