guys, how can i tell how a doblo is the 100 bhp version? i know they were made between 02-03. Will the log book or something tell me when i am buying?

I want this version as it has the most standard torque out of all the doblos and produces nice results when remapped.

I dont think the engine is not as smooth as the mjtd.

yep they are the JTDs, the 100 bhp seems to have ran from 02 to 03 and only available in ELX spec on the non van version

i am not sure how well known it is that this 100bhp version has a good bit more torque

Not sure where you're getting that info from.

In the sales blurb we were given when buying Mrs_G's Doblo it lists

Power: 100 bhp @ 4000 rpm.
Torque: 200 Nm @ 1500 rpm.

When the van was delivered we were told that it was the new 105 bhp version. A supplement to the owners manual lists

Power: 105 bhp @ 4000 rpm.
Torque: 200 Nm @ 1500 rpm.

So the torque would appear to be the same on the 100/105 bhp versions.

if you look on a well know tuning site you can see the figures

the 100 bhp has 200 lbft of torque (271.2nm)

the 105 has 151 lbft of torque (204nm)

the 120 has 148 lbft of torque (200.7nm)

you can see this in the parkers guide here also, the 100 bhp has 200lbft of torque listed there, it doesnt give the nm conversion

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/data-detail.aspx?deriv=22850

its enough of a difference for me to get the 100bhp and have it remapped, even if its an older slightly rougher engine!(y)

All those details are correct.
I've got the '03 100. The 105 is cleaner and in a lower tax rating, and gets 10% better economy apparently. It was remapped (or whatever) by Fiat for co2 reasons.
The latest little multijet has also just been tweaked to deliver better emissions and fuel economy. It is now in the lowest tax bracket. :)

I'll take the parkers guide info with a huge pinch of salt - they list a 1.9 JTD sx at 63bhp and 118Nm - obviously a non turbo 1.9 D.

Their listing for the 100 bhp version appears to be a typo error - 200 (Nm missing) (lbs feet number missing) Lb-ft. Look at a few other entries to see what I mean.

yeah they do have gaps across loads of models with regard to tech data.

I have spoken to celtic on this not so long ago and they confirmed the higher torque on the 100bhp.

hows does the 100 bhp in standard form pull?

Well, I've nothing sensible to compare it with really. Not much go initially, but then gobs of shove. I never extend it when cold, but really, it can be a useful overtaker on urban dual carriageways, up hills and on fast roads. It's still only 100bhp of course, but I had a go in a brand new 100 bhp Panda Sport and was not really impressed by the power of that. I was hoping for a really rorty getaway, but, considering the size of the car, I found it a bit wanting, and bouncy. Getting back into the roomy van type thing and setting off again made me feel happy. It lopes a bit, which I like I'm afraid, and I'm used to the decent torque too. What can I say? Catch the turbo in second gear at about 15mph, floor it and you rush rush forwards with your back almost pushed into the seatback, snick up to third and you just keep powering on. Great. Good car.

i can see how a remap would make it go really well

by the way how do you know yours is a 100bhp?

Because I bought it new (pre-registered) and the bhp is quoted in all the booklets, log book and other stuff. Also, a few months after I bought mine I read of the uprated engine which was 'now available'. The blurb gave all the details.
I got mine at a good price as they were trying to make up their monthly sales. I don't see myself being able to afford to change it anytime soon either, so I am very pleased I got the Dob; it's easy to live with, easy to get in and out of, has room for all my stuff and is very good to drive.
Faults in case you are interested include too-quiet and stubbornly wilful indicators, poor visibility due to over-thick A pillars and the radio that always resets itself to too low a volume after switching off. Oh, and wind noise from the front pillars. If these minor problems were ever sorted the Dob would be something truly amazing, a near perfect car - for me!(y)
