Does anyone have any idea about the towing train wieght for an 02 reg JTD sx

trailer without brakes, book says 500kg,
60 kg loading on ball trailer with brakes

carrying capacity 5 persons + 215 kg,

obvoiusly dont want to overload, but i wish the book was clearer

Isn't there a plate under the bonnet that shows maximum axle weights, front and rear, maximum vehicle weight and maximum train weight?

On the 1.9 multijet, the train weight is 3330kg and the vehicle weight is 2030kg so your max trailer weight would be 1300kg.
I believe this model (7 seater) is slightly heavier than the previous model, but only slightly so the trailer weight would be about right.

On the old shape Doblo, the maximum braked trailer is 1100, and the maximum payload is something like 600+kg... so the train is about the same as the multijet 3300 mark!

Here's Mrs_G's Vin Plate. (sorry its not very clean - I must take it up with her when she's finished washing my van, car and motorcycle - oh and cooked my dinner).

It shows a Gross Vehicle Weight of 1935Kg.
Gross Train Weight of 3035Kg.

That would imply a trailer with a maximum weight of (3035-1935) 1100Kg.

That works out at about 83% of the van's kerb weight (1310Kg according to the sales blurb). This ties in nicley with the recommendation that for safe towing a trailer should not exceed 85% of the towcar's kerbweight - makes it much less likley that the 'tail will start to wag the dog' and cause an accident.

I think on some cars the 'allowed' weight implied by the vin plate exceeds 85% but this doesn't mean it is safe - it is more to do with the car's ability to get going again on a hill with a heavy trailer attached.

Any braked trailer, whether it be caravan or plant etc.

However, if it's not braked a Doblo can only tow 500kg because that's the percentage of the vehicles weight allowed.
