I've noticed that the new 1.9 multijet Diesel has either 105 bhp or 120. The new Punto Grande seems to have the same engine but has variable valve timing and puts out 130 bhp and there's an Alfa with the same engine again but with 16v which puts out 150 bhp!
I've been wondering how much power you can squeeze out of this engine.
How does the Active model only produce 105bhp when it has 120bhp from the same engine on the Family model? Surely ther must be a simple way of getting more power out of it. Could you get more than 120bhp out of the Doblo Family or Dynamic?

If you have it professionally tuned you will get around 145bhp something like that from the 1.9Multijet.

Take a look here look at the Punto engines for a guide, or better still give them a ring and ask them.

According to them, the 1.9 120bhp can be boosted 160bhp  .
That's amazing.
Not sure what effect it would have on reliability, not to mention the warranty  .
Reckon I'll wait untill the warranty expires then have it done.

Thanks for the link Ozzie

Well... that is the question that's been asked many a time! And until something goes terribly wrong, no one will ever know if a remap will affect your warranty!

I've just bought a Dynamic 105 for my OAP parents. Drove the 105 and 120 back to back and preferred the 105 as it was more tractable at low revs which suits the isle of wight where they live and the 105 had no DPF which I've had lots of trouble with before.

I've not long ago got rid of a Vectra with a 150hp version of the Doblo engine and i didn't like it - as you squeeze more power from an engine you tend to lose bottom end. The Vectra was flat until 2000rpm and then rather peaky. Not nice to drive so see if you can drive a boosted one before you commit your cash - they are not always as fun as they sound day to day. :)

Thanks doblobebop,
you do need to wind the 120 up a bit to get use of the extra power so I can see what you mean. That's probably why the Grande Punto has V.V.T.
I had to have the 120 engine as I wanted a 7 seater and the only other choice was the 1.3 which sounded a bit too small for carrying 7 people and luggage.
Maybe it's best left alone, Fiat probably know what they're doing ;)

RichDoblo120-

Yeah, be happy with what you've got! I've spent a fortune tuning motors in the past and there is always a compromise. If it makes you feel any better, 120hp is far more power than is available in any other vehicle of this type like the Berlingo or Kangoo which max out at 85-92hp! :D

I wouldn't mind getting my JTD tuned, but that's only really for economy purposes and because it's only 105bhp instead of your 120... although not a big difference. It would then be a 145bhp.

If someone came out with a kit to improve the handling of the Doblo, then maybe more people would go and tune them...

105bhp is enough to cause a major accident if you don't know how to handle your dobbie ;) before you go tuning it! In fairness to the dobbie it handles well for the type of er... car van it is, and you seem to know where you are with it.

I drove a 1.6 Pug 206 the other day, and was going around a roundabout trying it out everything was fine and then I found myself going slightly sideways and the arse end was out all over the place in a split second! Maybe it's because I'm not used to driving cars like that, but that's why I love my dobbie because I can actually connect to it and know what it's doing :D in case of emergencies of course... can't afford to keep replacing those front tyres ;)

I've always found the handling really good too. I'm not a quick driver generally but you seem to be able to corner pretty quick in a Dobbie, and for it's shape, there's not much body roll. Because of those cart springs at the back, I don't think there's much you could do to improve the handling really. I've had 2 Sherpa vans. Now there's a van with really bad handling  . You had to pretend you were driving on ice all the time, then it wouldn't catch you out.

I think that the Dobbin handles really well, considering it's parentage. My real concern is that if you brake hard and steer the front end goes very unstable. The exit that we use from the M25 is really badly designed and the turn onto the roundabout tightens at the very last minute. It's caught me out a few times!

I have just had my doblo boosted

according what i was told the clutch does not like anymore than 145

i am very happy with whats been done

it pulls like a train from tickover
