Can any one out there enlighten me as to the company that produced these conversions - saw one resently - its like a big hatchback that changes the profile of the car to that of an estate !

Could be BUT the one I saw was 'Just a hatch replacement' no other work looked to have been carried out, this one looks to of had 'Major surgery' !
The one I saw was more like this

That one (not the hearse!) looks really good. In fact much better than the standard one IMO. Should be a fairly easy conversion too. Don't know where you'd get one but I'd do it if I had one.

I have a MKII Croma, which has a fat lump on the back as standard. In fact the whole thing is a fat lump.

A buddy of mine came through with the information as follows

The Hatchback conversion was made be Furtmayr, Romaldini Gmbh

I first thought it was just in place of the back window. Looking again, it looks like it might be a whole boot lid. Don't see why though, but I can't see the join between the boot lid and the extended roof.

Are you getting one then?
