I recently bought a used Croma MultiJet 1.9 litre 16v (first registration in Italy 2007, Giugiaro edition).

I came with 285mm ventilated discs at the front and 278mm solid discs at the rear. Is this the original configuration?

My swiss mechanic says that all 1.9 litre 16v MultiJet turbodiesel units feature uprated brake callipers and larger, 305 mm ventilated discs at the front, with 292mm ventilated discs at the rear.

I think It depends on your vehicle identification number.

Depends on exact build standard. There were also two different makes of brake calipers / disks fitted to the 1.9 16V Teves or Lucas.
The garage mechanic does not know what he is talking about, especailly as your Croma was first used in Italy. Maybe all the 1.9 16V Cromas sold in Switerland had the same brakes, but that doe not mean all Cromas are the same world wide.
