Hi All,
I've just been hit from behind and the rear bumper's broken.

I'm trying to source a replacement - dealer's quoting £450+ - and hopefully there's no other damage been done.

Assuming I tackle it myself is it a difficult thing to remove?

I'll be getting a paintshop to take care of the priming and painting and I expect that there will be a collection of bolts that will have rusted.

Does anyone have any experience of this or can anyone give me any pointers please?

Thanks again,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Sorry for slow reply i've been in the USA on business.
Never done it but seems straight forward according to eLearn. A lot of bolts though. See attached

EDIT,
Forgot to say, there are a couple on ebay for under £100 including shipping.

I've done the bumper removal when fitting a tow bar and electrics to Croma is used to have.

The tricky to access bolt is the (1) on page 2 of the PDF posted.

The rest is straight forward enough.

Things I recall to watch out for are:

1) As the bumper is being with drawn from the car be careful that it does not suddenly drop and yank the reversing sensor wiring & number plate wiring.

2) When refitting take care/note of the top flange that runs across the top of the bumper along to tailgate line beneath the rubber real. I recall that it is very easy for this to not be seated correctly but everything else looks OK. I got caught out and as the flange head bolts along this section were the last I was fitting I had to go back to square one and remove the bumper again.

3) BEFORE starting the bolting up check that each of the reversing sensors and plate lights are working. The sensor connectors (main and to each sensor) can be tetchy. Might be a good to give them a good clean and electrical lube.

4) Don't panic when all is done the dashboard might shown various bulb failures. These should clear as you energise each of the lights. The ones that got me concerned were the indicators. I seems to recall they took about 7 to 10 on/off cycles to finally register as OK.

Lastly, don't forget to disconnect the battery. This should avoid 4) but you will have to do the window anti-pinch recalibration.
