Hello everybody,

I have a problem with my croma 1.9 2005 150HP. about a month ago I get the check engine light. I checked the ECU and it was the "clean or replace the DPF" alarm. Cleaned and regenerate the DPF . Today after approximately 2000Km I received the check engine light again. Connected the laptop and I see again the "clean or replace the DPF" alarm. Really I don't understand what is causing this DPF pollution, because I really don't think it's because of the fuel quality.
Does anyone have any idea???? Please help:cry:

Hi,
What diagnostic software are you using? Have you checked the oil degradation level? if this has not been reset when the oil was changed it will inhibit regeneration of the DPF. If you have Multiecuscan there are a number of other parameters you can check which will help diagnosis. A physical check you can do is the small pipes from the DPF to the pressure sensor. These can degrade and leak.

Yes, often forgotten, the service (oil change) counter and the oil degradation counter. Not many service garages are aware of this, or even able to reset both.

Regen will not work after about 22,000 miles if not reset.

Hello, I'm using multiecuscan. Can you tell me what other parameter do I have to check? You see, the problem is real. I mean, I can feel the boost decreasing so the DPF is really blocked again. What I don't understand is that how can that happen in that really short time and for about 2000Km. Anyway I will also check the small pipes as you suggested and let you know. Thanks

Hi,
Basically all the parameters from particulte filter temperature to the end see

Hi everyone, my first post so I feel I should offer thanks to all the contributors who have made this a useful site to find advice on all things Croma over the past few years. Cheers!

Re. DPF issue, as has been well covered here, my local independent garage cannot reset the oil degradation counter so I've gone down the Multiecuscan route. Couple of questions... I can see Oil Change in the Engine Adjustments section but not seeing a separate entry for Oil Degradation Counter? Oil Deg Level is in Parameters but not seeing where to reset this. Also, when I execute the Oil Change I'm getting an error saying "can't execute". At the risk of asking a stupid question, do I need to have actually changed the oil for this to work? I'm not skipping a service, just catching up for the last one, but there has been a few months delay between garage and buying the software. Or any other reason this might not execute?

Thanks,
CFE

Hi,
Welcome to Fiat Forum
What version of MES are you using? Is it registered? Which engine do you have? Are there any faults showing?
I can't see why it won't execute, I've never had any issue an have done it on a few different cars.

Ah fair enough first I'd actually heard of anything that old with one
Interestingly when the London emissions charge was first announced the TfL on-line checker said the Croma would be charged, based on year of registration. They now have a registration number based check which confirms that the Croma is exempt from the charge. This is correct as it has a DPF and was designed to meet the Euro V standard (but is not certified to meet it)

Thanks for the replies... I'm mostly driving short urban journeys up to 3 miles, with one 40 mile return trip on motorway per week. The car is an 06 Dynamic with 1.9l Multijet engine. The software is registered and version 4.0 - bought from Multiecuscan website within the last fortnight so presume that's the latest. I do see now that the control module listed on MES under 1.9 Multijet covers 1.9 16v and 2.4 20v but doesn't mention the 8v variant that I'm pretty sure mine is - is that a possible problem? There are currently no errors showing having cleared the DPF one last week.
Aside from the problem executing the oil change task, can I check if completing this will reset the degradation counter or is there a second Adjustment I need to do too that I'm missing, as suggested by many posts on this site, e.g. keithglos on this thread?
Cheers

Hi,
You select 8V or 18V when you select the model of Croma. However I don't think it matters for the engine control unit.
There are only two relevent resets, the service which is done by connecting to the body computer and the oil change in the engine ECU. What is the oil degradation counter saying? It's a bit backward, 100% "degraded" is fresh oil and 0% is old oil. If it is at a high number that may be why you can't perform the oil change reset.

Welcome to the forum ?
My 8v mjet def has a dpf which caused no end of problems when the car was about 3 years old, mainly because the main dealer had no clue about the car.

It kept throwing the check dpf message but the problem was really a blocked egr. With the advice of posters on here I blocked off the egr with part of a soup tin lid and it cleared the problem.

Soup tin lid quickly swapped for a bullet hole / swirl mod gasket off eBay and problem hasn't recurred since - maybe 10 years ago but I'd need to check the posts on here. I do remove and clean the egr with carb cleaner at every service though.

Posters are correct about mes being needed to reset the oil change indicator after a service otherwise the ecu will stop regenerating the dpf to protect it.

Older versions of mes - up to 1.5 from memory - can do oil resets but not much else so definitely get a registered version. It's worth every penny.

Does the engine "stutter" between 1500 and 2500 revs or require to be revved really hard without much power being produced.
