but if the dpf is there but just empty isnt it just a broken dpf not a mod:idea:

Not if there is a receipt for deletion in the cars records, the owner talks about deletion on a public forum or social media or there is a welded up hole on the back of it. There is no credable failure that wuld result in a DPF core being missing. On newer models you also have to fool the electroncs so there will be traces of this. Insurance companies are very aware these days and will use any excuse not to pay out.

What happens if it was like that when you bought it?They(insurance) normally ask if YOU have done any modifications

No, they (at least all the ones I've ever delt with in 30 odd years and 25 cars) ask if the vehicle HAS any modifications. You may be able to argue that you were not aware of non-obvious modifications, but the onus is on you to prove you did not know.

They can cancel the insurance (they have to pay out 3rd party claims, but can recover the cost from you) for ANY undeclared modification. There was a recent case were they wanted to cancel because of religious stickers on a car [ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-31064998 ] and ther are many cases of re-badging being cause. As deleting a DPF will increase power slightly it "might" impact on an accident.

Insurance is all OK until you have a claim and some company finds any reason not to pay.

lolo, how does it matter to insurance company if they belive in something

Reverend Wena Parry, 75, was told that stickers saying "Christ Must Be Saviour" and "Christ For Me" could be regarded as "modifications" and could invalidate her insurance policy.

they might have prayed for car to go faster, performance mod

In reality, messages on a car could attract unwanted attention and vandalism. Complaining about an extra 12V outlet in back seems a bit excessive. Note that the Rev. got away with it because the underwriters decided the agent (Age UK) had not made the requirement to declare modifications clear enough.

The w...ers dont pay out anyway when there is a claim.I had my caravan stole last august, took till december till we got a pay out and even then it was 2k short on what we agreed.Imagine that with a Croma, you,d owe them money.Ha ha.

Apologies if I'm majorly incorrect, but from what I understand, a major cause of EGR and DPF failures is them getting blocked by soot: wouldn't a certain amount of that be as a result of the car not spending enough time at optimum temperature? I.e, the owner bought a diesel when a small petrol would've suited their needs better.

A mate of mine used to have a Corsa with the Fiat 1.3 MultiJet engine, which he bought despite the fact that the vast majority of journies he travelled being less than 10 miles long. Potentially, as a result of the short journies, the EGR valve went wrong.

Back in the 1960s I was a "Relocation Consultant for Pre-Owned Vehicles", we used to reckon that a modified car was valued as standard, less the cost of putting it back to standard.

That confirms my original "valuation" The notional cost of a DPF, EGR valve and de-map is about the value of the car.
