Hi all, I have been posting for a few days on this now but still no real joy......I have suffered the steering intermittantly dropping out for 2 years until last year I replaced battery, alternator, power cable to pump etc cleaned the pump terminals and now it looks like its dead for good.... i have been going crackers today!! I have been told there is a ECU on the steering column as well as one inside the body of the PAS pump, not sure which to look at first(not easy with no 4 poster ramp!)

My question is this - will the Vectra c PAS pump fit and work ok or will i need the ECU from column too?

Has anyone else replaced their PAS pump o experienced the same issues as me? I have spotted few Croma parts but LOADS of Vectra ones - here is the best one I found on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2015090368...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

& here is the Croma one (only one!!) - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2916611828...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I cant find anything for the steering column ECU tho so if you guys know where please let me know!! Thanks again

Hi,
The Vectra C pump will NOT work. Mechnically and electrically it's the same but the firmware (built in software) is different and it won't interface with the Fiat systems. It would be interesting to compare the Croma and Vectra C units directly because it might be possible to transfer the chip that holds the firmware from the Fiat unit to the Vauxhall and make it work in the Croma. Without taking one to pieces it's hard to know what is possible.

Sorry to bring bad news.

what about reading firmware from croma pump and putting it to vectra pump, then it should work in croma?

It might be otp... so may need chip transplanting or a blank one programming... if its a balled chip, practially surface mount then probs not a good idea to mess with it.

However I have done such things before. I'm a professional electronics engineer and have the equipment to do this type of work at home. This includes surface mount rework, reading and programming memories and microprocessors.
If nyone wants to send me a Croma and a Vectra pump I'm happy to look at them and see what can be done.

I looked into this years ago when Nokia dct4 handsets came out as a certain chip on them that contained the imei was otp... managed to swap one over but killed about 15 handsets in the process - that was 3 grands of mobile phones back then lol...
