Hi all, having had a few months of relatively trouble free motoring in my 06 Croma the dreaded power steering has failed, this time it seems more severe than before - Can anyone provide a link to where I can buy a new power cable? I've tried googling but without the specific part or name of part (I know GM Vectra parts will fit) I cant find anything!! My mechanic has tried cleaning the connector clip but to what extent I don't know, I don't really wanna have to be buying second-hand pumps (SKINT!!!!) so I thought I'd try here with you knowledgeable gents first!!

Any help muchos gracias!

Not sure myself - thanks for the link! I don't suppose you have a part no?

I didn't tell you it because I'm not sure....it's not clear on eper...
Maybe 71740545...it's the unique electric cable I can find for the power steering...but I repeat: I'm not sure.
And that part no is for right drive. So for UK.
Because the left drive car has an other part no (71740544)
So if it's correct...maybe the cable in the ebay auction is not good for you (you have to compare the one in the photo with yours)

Hi All,

New info - fault code from my mechanic c1009 which I believe maybe a faulty ecu code.....mechanic says he changed main power cable 2 wires and plug last time, has checked alternator, had new battery not long ago, so what now?

Is the Vectra c pump not the same(if it turns out to be a failed pump that is!!) I am totting up the cost involved to get her thru next MOT and without the pump its easily gonna be £300+ (broken coil spring, new rear pads, 2x new tyre + labour & mot test fee without the cost of fitting and replacing an bits on steering!!)

I am thinking i may be better of putting her up for spares and replacing cos I just cant be off the road with my job we need 2 fully working cars and its just one thing after another with this lovely but f*!"ing annoying expensive car!!

Any info on replacement pump or ecu would be great also anyone know someone with FiatEcu local to me? I am based in Warrington thanks

thanks for the reply. I think I am gonna get the car back and see what I can figure out on my drive as I simply cannot afford the cost, the £290 needed to get her thru the MOT and the £360-400 ish for new power steering pump(presuming it is the pump!!) + labour....... i have very little faith left in this car so if i cant get her sorted cheap then i will be breaking it....

Unless someone by some miracle knows of a decent priced 2nd hand pump for cheap?? I may have to send her to the scrapyard in the sky!!

Hi @simonroscoe
Shame you are so far away (I'm in Cambridge) or I'd stic Multiecuscan on it and see what that says. Does sound more like an electrical problem. If the power connector has suffered corrosion or burning it's hard to get a full cure with just a plug replacement. The blade contacts on the pump may also have been damaged so good contact would be hard to make. I'd be tempted to remove the plug completely, solder some heavy wires onto the blades on th pump and connect to the car loom with a new plug (different type) or just large electrical screw terminals at a pinch. Trouble is it's pretty hard to get at the pump. I'd want to rule out bad connections before changing the pump.
