Hi,
Welcome to Fiat Forum and the Croma. The 2.4 is pretty rare in the UK, less than 35 were imported.
You can download the electronic workshop manual, eLearn, from the forum here: https://www.fiatforum.com/downloads.php?do=download&downloadid=373

Unfortunatly eLearn says something worrying:

"To remove the alternator, proceed in two different ways according to the lower fastening of the alternator. If the head of the lower bolt is facing the outside of the vehicle, the engine must be removed. If the head of the lower bolt is facing inward, proceed as described below."

It sounds like your bolt head may be outboard. It might be worth considering pushing the bolt out as far as it will go, cutting the head off and then putting a new one in the other way around. I don't know what access for cutting is like but sometimes one of the vibratory saws will fit in tight spaces.
I've changed the alternator on my 1.9 16V and that was bad enough.

Depending on how low down the bolts are compared to the chassis front rail and wheel arch access space then removing the cam shaft end engine mount and the central gearbox mount and leaving the gearbox end mounts in place one may be able to lower the alternator bolts into an accessible position.

Of course when doing this one may have to unship a front exhaust mount and MUST also check for other items like aircon hoses, coolant hoses, cable harnesses etc. that may prohibit / restrict movement. A two to four inch tilt drop should hopefully be possible if done with care.
