Exclamation Croma 1.9jtd Serious wobble under accel. & power steering drops out - PLEASE HELP!!

Hi all, I have a lovely 06 plate Croma 1.9jtd with a couple of niggly issues - firstly the car wobbles side to side under acceleration, either heavy or light between 30-55mph. This seems to stop when you dip the clutch or lift off accelerator. Ive had new front and rear tyres fitted and balanced, other than swapping the front for the back wheels, is there anything you guys can suggest may be the problem?

I thought it may possibly be driveshaft or engine mounting related, its done 130k and there are a few whirs and clunks when you boot it hard mainly exhaust shield sounding but other than that the car drives spot on..........except sometimes on low revs the power steering drops out for a few seconds, really dangerous when my little wife is driving it, I can barley move it let alone her!! Any suggestions for either issue much appreciated as I dont want to get rid of her but cant afford to spend an awful lot investigating into her problems!!

Thank you in advance

Re: Croma 1.9jtd Serious wobble under accel. & power steering drops out - PLEASE HELP

I have just spent the last hour or so reading thru the previous posts on driveshaft issues and it seems that is the problem, I have the 120bhp 1.9 8v dynamic model, is this the m32 gearbox and will any Vectra C 2002-2009 driveshaft fit? This one is available on ebay -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-V...item3ab0796e74

I know its been covered before but if anyone reading this could help thatd be great!! Or if anyone local to me does fitting of these, thatd be even better!! I am based near Manchester & Warrington WA3!!

Re: Croma 1.9jtd Serious wobble under accel. & power steering drops out - PLEASE HELP

Hi,
Welcome to the world of Croma :-)
I've not had to change my driveshafts yet, but am planning to do so at some point. One thing I've noted from my research is that if you change the drivers side shaft to the Vectra type you must change both the inner and outer shafts as the individual parts are different lengths. The gearbox has mounts for the outer bearing of both types. The passenger side shaft is one piece and the Vectra one will fit. I understand that the drivers side is the most common to fail. Are you planning to do the work yourself or getting a garage to do it?

HTH,
Robert G8RPI.

Re: Croma 1.9jtd Serious wobble under accel. & power steering drops out - PLEASE HELP

Hi Robert g8rpi, thanks for your reply,

I am not able to do the work myself as I have no space other than the street to do it in!! I could use the number/name of someone local to me (between Manc & Warrington)who is good and is willing to put second hand parts on....and a guide possibly on how to!! I could take it to my Dad's and do it there so a guide is another viable option if anyone out there has a idiot-proof guide?!?!

Thanks again

Hi,
Don't know your area, so can't suggest a garage. I didn't comment on the steering last time. This is another known problem and there is guidance on here if you search. Often it is down to a bad electrical connection at the pump, Disconnecting cleaning (WD40 is OK) and re-connecting the power feed may sort it out.

I concur with g8rpi. You could also try refilling the boots with grease as this also seems to solve the problem for some members.
Telegraph has a very good guide in the https://www.fiatforum.com/guides section at the bottom of your post

Hope this helps

Re: Croma 1.9jtd Serious wobble under accel. & power steering drops out - PLEASE HELP

Don't know about the wobble under acceleration but changing the PAS wiring loom is a bit of a faff but not an all day job by any stretch. Probably safest to budget for about an hour or so but once you've done it you'l wonder what was hard about it

I tried mine a couple of different ways and the easiest for me was to jack the car up and take the front drivers side wheel off. Remove the inspection cover and you should be able to see the connector.

The Vectra C loom fits fine and there are usually plenty available on ebay for not much money. Can't remember which power lead on the battery terminal though.

I found doing it that way much easier than reaching down from above through the fuel filter space.

Hi I took these photos when I changed our Croma 150 drive shafts. Croma's 120 or 150 are fitted with the m32 gearbox. Theres is nothing special about this so any gararge should be able to change them, just obtain the parts and tell them to fit them.

Hi,
I don't read Russian, but if it involves machining it's not worth the time an effort even if you can do it yourself. Buy a pair of used Vauxhall/Opel Vectra C drive shafts, fit and forget.

I don't understand it either Use automatic page translator... I think he made some washers by his own... I'll search for some Opel driveshafts but I just wanted your opinion about this Russian project
