Had bad loss of power this evening. Car felt like an old tractor. Took ages to get to 60mph.

I pulled into a layby and unplugged the air flow sensor. The car was transformed, with performance unlike anything I had experienced before. It flew by comparison, in as much as the 1.9jtd 8v will fly..

Is that pretty much conclusive evidence of a faulty sensor?

Hi,
It's pretty conclusive. You can try cleaning it. Use a spray cleaner for MAFs or contact cleaner from Maplins code Code: N61AN. Don't touch the element with anything. Search the forum for 1.9 JTD MAF Cleaning.
