Hi,
Sorry for the slow response, I was hoping someone had come across this before.
Did you disconnect the steering column from the rack? I assume you did not remove the sensor as you don't know were it is. If you have done neither of these, I don't think it's the sensor. Did you disconnect or disturb the electrical connections? A bad connection is the most likely cause. Disconnect the battery negative and have a good check around the rack. Also check the Midi fuses under the cover of the battery terminal, you may have caused a momentary short or overload and blown the steering fuse. It should be Fuse 73, a 80A bolt in fuse.
Other than this, it's the old story, you need Multiecuscan or Alfaobd and a lead to do some diagnostics. Where are you located?

hi thanks for that the only thing i did was put the car on my two post ramp remove the rack gaitors remove the old rack ends and fit new ones .i did leave the key in the ignition in the off pos so i could turn the steering to allow accsess to the rack ends .i have tried removing the batt neg and checked the connections on the rack but its not cured it im based in wigan could you recomend anyone with a multiscan i tried my snapon solus but the steering is not supported on that

Hi it would be worthwhile jiggling the power connector to the steering pump or even disconnecting it and inspect the spade connectors under the blue thing. This power steering problem can be illogical and not have anything to do with the work you have done. Before sorting our car it would kick off for my wife when she needed it to work most!. I fitted a new harness £17 as I recall and it has been fine since.

I no expert, but could it be the steering angle sensor needs to know the limitations from lock to lock? Something like the window sensors. Try starting the engine and turn the steering wheel fully from lock to lock, repeat a few times. If that fails I'm stumped
