I’m considering having the Fiat restrictor plate (part number 55225287) fitted to the EGR valve on my 78,000 miles 1.9 16V diesel Croma,

If you have a restrictor plate fitted to the EGR valve on your diesel Croma can you explain any benefits and any problems that you have experienced please.

I fitted one to my 8v mjet years ago and it transformed the car.

I got mine and a pair of crush gaskets off ebay from a Polish company. They came in three days and cost and £5.50 delivered. It's the best money I've spent on the car and I recommend it to everyone.

It cuts down the air going through the egr enough to largely eliminate the egr problems, slightly increases power and eliminates the 2K rev stutter without putting on check engine.

Not aware of any downsides at all.

Go for it.

This plate (55225287) is in my car (1,9 16V) from the moment I bought it, 4,5 years ago. Never caused problems except the first time shortly after I got them. I take the valve of after about 17.000 km to oil the valve spindle and o-ring, and for cleaning the inside of the solenoid after 51.000 km. The inside of the valve house is black from a thin layer of soot, but I never cleaned it. It's time for maintenance as you feel little hesitations after pressing the accelerator (throttle)

This EGR restrictor plate (55225287) is the one to fit. There is another plate 71751468 but this is much more expensive and does not have the inbuilt rubber gaskets seals so you have purchase additional gaskets/seals making it very very much more expensive than 55225287.

Regarding it's use/success. 100% on all counts. Only recommendation I would have is fit a new, reconditioned, cleaned ..... etc. EGR valve at the same time otherwise you will not get the full benefit of the new restrictor plate.
