Hi can anyone tell me if I can reset the oil change warning on my 55 plate croma with the free version of multiecuscan or do I need to buy the full version ?

Thanks in advance

Clive

Assuming you have a diesel, there is the oil service to reset, but even more important is the oil degradation, which will stop regens when it reaches 22000 miles. There are no garages in my area who have ever heard of this.

Hi,
You can reset the service and oil change with Multiecuscan, but it needs the registered version. I just cheked my Croma 1.9 16V and while the book said it had had 5 oil changes the ECU was only registering 3 oil changes. It's obvious that many garages don't know about this or don't have the tools to change the settings.
Multiecuscan is well worth the cost.

The older versions allowed you to reset it, up to about 1.5 or thereabouts.

The older versions used to be available for download as free versions but I don't know if that's still the case.

But I'd agree it's well worth the money getting a registered version.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I purchased the full version today and reset everything nicely

. Def. worth the 40 quid. Not too difficult to use either. Right new trailing bushes on the rear next !

Indeed the software price is very low/good.

Another point to make note of is that although the license is valid for one year this means you get 1 years updates and your last update does not stop working after your year is out. You only have to update to pick up new vehicles/added function for later vehicles.

For many of the poor/broke/Fiat owners running older cars and not looking to buy newer in the near feature then the modest license fee is very good value.

Thread Hi Jack :)

I need to get me some of this....

currently a mac user, I'm likely to buy an old windows XP laptop which i assume it will run on?

What gear (apart from the laptop) do i need to get this thing going?

If i get the 40 notes version, can i program a non remote key?

i have a bravo 165.

Cheers

Hi,
Multiecuscan does not do keyprogramming. I understand AlfaOBD does but can't confirm it. An XP laptop is ideal. I use an old Sony PCG FX201. The screen is much more readable in daylight than my modern machine. Mine came from FreeCycle, for free. You need the laptop, an interface and depending on your car, adaptors. See http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx
for details. A travel adaptor so you can run the laptop from the car is useful but not essential.

Hi, in my opinion- key coding is the ONLY thing missing from MES

you can get a set of coloured adaptor leads for @ £15,(y)

:idea:look carefully on the MES lists to see wether you'll also need

ELM 327
/ or VAG COM cables..

possible you'll need BOTH;)

where are you based..?? there's a fair few on the forum .., so a local demo could be a possibility, :)(y)

Im in Herne bay in Kent.

I will get the multi scan stuff, I do my own servicing etc, always good to have the gear to reset service light too.

I've had a look at eBay for the eobd interface and seen this http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=271275445368

I'm guessing that and the software should do the trick

Yes key programming, other than remotes, is a lacking function which often comes up for discussion.

This is also a prime difference between MES & AlfaOBD.

I've only ever used MES (not AlafaOBD) (from its first original FiatECUScan origins) and the key programming has always been a current topic.

Yani (MES originator/coder/owner) has deliberately thus far excluded key/security reprogramming functions from FES/MES because a simple user error, or indeed a user hardware error, or even a FES/MES programming error COULD RESULT IN A DEAD CAR.

Remember if you go to a Fiat/other dealer and they kill your car that is their responsibility and they have to repair the damage/operability of your car.

If MES were, for what ever reason (like you screwed up), to kill your car then you wuld be really *issed off and looking for damages/reparation etc. etc. within a rapid period.

For now, MES will I believe avoid these complications/liability under its current licensing program.

As key programming is still actively pursued by MES users (including PRO shops) then this ability is not off the MES radar so may be coming in the future.

Remember a single/simple/other error with key programming can leave you with a dead car!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Useful background info from s130, thnaks. I guessed it was something like that or not wanting to assist possible illegal activity.
On Chris's question, yes that interface on ebay will work for most units on the car including service reset. You might need an adaptor for ABS, but I'd wait till you need it.

I use it with XP and 7.

There's a note on Yani's website about running it on 8 or 8.1 as follows:

Windows 8 note:
Multiecuscan works fine on Windows 8/8.1, but you have to install .NET Framework 3.5 (which is not installed by default). You simply have to go to Control Panel -> Add remove programs -> Add remove windows components, and install .NET Framework 3.5.
.

I've run FES/MES on XP 32bit/Vista 32bit/7 64bit and now 8.1 64bit.

I currently use a Novatech/Clevo 10 inch Win8.1 64 tablet for MES and have no issues.

When we go abroad to Italy (just about every year) I/we always ensure I have at least one laptop for both photo work and hopefully not MES work.

This year instead of lugging a laptop around the mountains during our extensive outings to off road places I'll have just a slim Win8.1 tablet in to boot should I need to call on it.

A slight digression. Regarding MES when out and about and not on holiday away from home. As full function Engine only OBDII hand held devices can now be bought for less than £100 I have been for a long time thinking of getting one to permanently live in the car. I'm thinking an ABS, Aircon, Power Steering, etc. issue is not something that will stop me getting home. An engine issue would. So a full coverage engine only device is getting far more attractive option if one can sapre £100. Would never replace MES but could certainly help save one's bacon when generally out on the road on a daily basis, or even on holiday when you forget to put the laptop/tablet with MES in the boot on every daily outing.

Thoughts/comments ?
