Hello,

I would like to share with you once again (I mentioned it some months ago in another thread) an issue with a squealing alternator belt. Please, look at that video of a cold start:
You'll see that the belt starts squealing in case of a big current consumption and this squealing stops as soon as the voltage goes above 13.2 V. It looks like the alternator is working lazy. I'm wondering, is it an electrical (inside the alternator - diode rectifier, voltage regulator, stator coils ...) or a mechanical (belt, alternator pulley ...) issue.

I have had this problem since I've bought the car 1 year ago. The alternator is working fine, according to my understanding. It charges the battery at 13.7-13.8 V. The issue is not critical, but is very annoying. That is why I'd be happy, if I can resolve it in a cost efficient way. Please, note that all belts and belt tensioners were replaced 1 year ago. The elastic alternator belt has been replaced even twice, because of a clue, that it should be original (first one was Contitech). The battery is also new (85 Ah Varta).

Is there anyone that experienced the same or similar problem? If yes, what was the resolution?

Thanks and best regards from Bulgaria!

Hello :- As a matter of urgency the auxilliary drive belt and tensioner wants changing. Mine was changed with the timing belt and the ridges on the inside of the belt were almost gone but no sign of wear on the outside. No sign of squealing but had me worried as if it breaks it can take out the timing belt as well .
Sounds like time to get it all done or you may get a very nasty shock soon:bang:

2.4 engine has 2 auxiliary belts. The squealing one is this between the air conditioning compressor and the alternator. It is a stretch belt, so there is no tensioner. Unfortunately, after a replacement with new belt, it squeals again. So the problem is somewhere else.

.

Not had experience with 2.4:eek:. But as you are getting squealing with a new belt it must be from a tight bearing on the alternator or the A/C compressor.
