Technical Chroma Odometer flashing + front electrics issue

Hi,
The ebay interface and and leads you linked to will work OK, but if you have already bought an interface, you can just buy the adaptors e.g. ebay item 301231120324

HTH,
Robert.
got the green one, thanx for that.

Looks like an issue with the rear abs sensor, either sensor itself of dodgy magnets on the bearing. I`ll get my mechanic to investigate

Can`t connect to can bus with my interface, apparently i need to modify the internals, swap out a resistor and add a couple of caps. Very common issue with the cheap chinese ones. I`ll have a look on ebay and see if I can fiind a proper one..

Hi,
If you want to post the interface to me I can do the modification for you. Cost would just be the return postage. It's basically balancing and DC blocking the bus termination (I'm an experienced electronics engineer). PM me if you want to do this.

Robert

I found the mod for what I think is a 1.5 interface, just had to remove 1 resister and I pretty much have access to everything.
Can bus was complaining it couldn't talk to a pollution sensor,
There was a complaint regarding loose connection on steering and a problem with rear abs
Interestingly, my door electrics are working, however the odometer is flashing.

Hi did you check that plug on the steering Colum it is not very clever and if it is not pushed all the way in will cause dash drama. Before sorting our power steering I thought it a good idea to give the steering wheel plenty of in out up and down all I achieved was dash display drama leading me to this plug. Some time ago there was a nice Croma on ebay reduced to spares or repair due to a blank dash and am convinced all that needed was that plug pushed in. As to the abs well from experience Croma's can hit you multiple issues at the same time but with dogged determination you can work through the problems and end with a really good car!.
;)

K, will go in for rear abs issue, I'll get mechanic to check this
Awesome car, love it, will fight on...

Here are some screen grabs.

I want to look at this steering connector, is it inside the adjustable bit?

Hi Scub to get at the connector you will have to take the trim off between the wheel and the dash the bottom part is held in place by three or four screws and fiddle with rake lever with the bottom trim off you can get to the screws that hold the top with a push and yank it will be free the fabric will allow you to lift it to one place. Now to that plug pull the wheel toward you and lock it, shine a torch down the left hand side and see the connector six or so inches down the steel column reach down and push it in. I do hope this fixes it trying to find a suspect earth lead will be irritating. The abs fault could be genuine and might be dirt on the probe or a bad connection.

REplaced the abs hub.

Alarms still present.

Can anyone look at the grab of the 4x speeds and tell me if this is normal?

Ta!

Hi Scub to get at the connector you will have to take the trim off between the wheel and the dash

Thats the whole underside of the sterring wheel down to the airbag exposed. Only connection I see is to an Aluminium cast box. I`ve given all connections a wiggle and nothing bad is happening.

I have new thoughts tho`

This is a thermal issue, either its a loose connection (as you suggest) or a badly soldered processor or chip thats in one of the nodes (nodes the right word?)

I need to find one thats connected to this circuit and replace. I know there is one in the door. I`m guessing thats one under the steering wheel?

Anyhows, new symtom, when the doors go dead in the front of the car, the fuel cap is also stuck shut. I notice via ecu scan that the car knows the door are open or closed, so one circuit must be working but reat of the front doors are dead.

I`ve been looking at the electrical diagrams available on this site, but cant find anything pertinant - I`ll have another look this afto..

How do I break into the doors? I wanna check the door node connections, I know the trim will brreak esaily :)

Im guessing id one door node goes down - the node on the otherside should be still functional?

Hi Scub, do you mean how do you take the door trim off? If so it's a bit of a faff but not too hard - have a look at the broken door handle threads.

Sorry to hear of your continued drama, just to be clear have you taken the column trim bottom and upper off it is a fiddle as they fit into the back of the steering wheel but the plastic is flexible ,the upper trim is joined to the dash by a piece of fau leather but just lift it clear. The column inside is a steel box that when unlocked permits in out movement for the steering wheel the connection is on this steel box section column I did have to push my hoof a fair way down to push the connection in .It does not seem to have anything to lock the plug in place!.
If I get a Minuit next week I will take a photo.

Yup I seen that, it seemed fine, and had to pull down the shin airbag to get my hands in.
Problem is getting worse, it's started happening while the ignition is off now. I have to get the kids to open the front doors via the back doors as the problem is now occurring whilst the doors are locked. I think I'll put it into a garage now, it's happening daily. I just discovered the little red cord that allows opening of fuel cap whilst locked =)

Thanks for the reply guys, I love driving this thing but it's driving me nuts. I was test driving a hounded i40 today, was OK. I looked at the salesman funny when he said it was quite powerful....

I really need to get my fiat fixed, I'm going to dislike my next car..

Though I have not had quite your trouble but I was tormented with a power steering night mare soon after buying our croma from Arnold DARK!. So I know how you feel . I have reread this thread and as you have checked all else it looks like you will have to get a replacement body computer there is only one listed on fiat eper 46846744 and a few cromas breaking on ebay.
