General Write off or repair?

I'd have kept it, plus the money, and the dents - I reckon you could get them up to £2k + keeping it, minus any non-cosmetic repairs needed and a pot of silver hammerite. But I'm not the sort to spend money on body kit, accessories or a hairbrush either.

Good luck - we still want to know the outcome, even if you are abandoning your friends and getting a normal car instead.

Sounds like OP is going though his insurer and not directly through 3rd Parties, so they can (n)

The bit about insurance being cancelled is BS though, I'd be contesting that as you don't HAVE to repair it, you could take the money and keep the car as it is providing its roadworthy.

CAT D doesn't require re MOT either, our Panda was CAT D when 3 months old, didn't get MOTed until it was 3 years old.

Who you insured with OP? Sounds like they need naming and shaming so we avoid them like the plague!

late to this but all is correct
even vosa cant cancel an mot
if you are indeed talking to your insurer why?
you need to be put back in the position you were in prior to accident at third parties expense
these people offering you silly figures work for insurers on a commission salary basis ie the less you get paid means they earn more
salvage buy back is usually 10 to 15 % if they are abi members and their protocol allows as many small prints now mean copart get them all

Should read 95K & surely `Foxtrot-Juliett'
WV55 BFJ was listed on eBay Sep2010 with mileage given @ 85K
£3,995 was the then asking price.

I got a copy of the repair estimate last week - £2400!! Good news is that the other insurers have admitted liability now so I can get my excess back and hopefully the cost of the hire car etc.
Esure informed me by text! I have had no other correspondence from them and I am continually chasing them. I've written to their customer services, not that I'm expecting any joy from that.
I put my Espace through a comparison site and the cheapest quote was less than half my current premium and Esure were just over half. When I rang them they refused to do anything about it. Doesn't bode well for my renewal in August.

My insurance for the Croma this year's about half what I paid last year for the Croma!

Premiums seem to have dropped through the floor this year - don't buy shares in insurance companies, it seems like they're actually competing with each other for the first time.

Perhaps we're finally seeing the benefits of black boxes for young drivers, cheaper insurance for women being banned and ever-improving security.

Or perhaps they're actually being regulated properly for the first time?

Whatever the reason, it's good news for once.

Not with my company, they actually want £433 this year.

Mind you we only have 9 years no claims, no convictions and have only had our licences for over 25 years.

On top of that we have the temerity to lock it in a garage every night. We also do an intergalactic 8,000 miles a year.

On the plus side: after consulting the Meerkat we can get it for £237 from LV.

You don't have to stick with the meerkat monopoly - plenty of companies don't want to pay their hefty commissions, so you need to get quotes directly from them (e.g. Direct Line and Aviva, among many others). I'm happy to get £70 as cashback instead of handing it over to a stuffed animal.

Couldn't have put it better myself, also worth bearing in mind comparison sites (or aggregators as they're known in the trade) serve one purpose, to get you the cheapest quote possible.

Cheap isn't always best however, and this is also why certain companies don't come up on them, they don't want to be associated with 'cheap' and 'budget' insurance cover :)
