General Fiat Croma 1.9D '06 PAS faliure/ABS warning light/Glow plug fault

Found this schematic diagram in the "manual" I have it shows all the things that have an effect on the ECU Croma ECU 001.jpg

Hope its a help:eek:

Well it is a bit like the power steering failing and going,
"I know I'll top up the screen wash see if that works ".

I suppose it's a change from "have you tried blanking / changing the egr valve?"

What has happened here? One of the beauties of diesel was the reliability brought about mainly from simplicity. A pump supplied diesel to injectors at high pressure and that was it.

Now they are so much more complex, and now probably more unreliable, than their petrol counterparts.

Still doesn't explain why the Ecu should give error messages re the ABS and ESP when it is a fuel injection issue.

Would have to agree with you but when you realise that people who write software have to have somebody to change a sparkplug you can see where it would lead :bang: .
At the risk of being a techno bore, When I was working we had computer software to run 30 gas / electric furnaces from one computer run by yours truly. Not once in 11 yrs were we in direct contact with the outside software providers, that was left to someone higher up + the "IT" dept who went on all the jollies and "sorted" the glitches.
Needless to say when the inevitable happened and £300000 worth of steel was at risk due to a software glitch, the first port of call was our position, what had we done wrong!!! It took a month of meetings and heated interviews for the blame to be put squarely where it belonged.
Firmly at the door of someone who had conveniently left the company about a month after the software was ordered and had nowt to do with it at the time:yuck:.

Transfer something like this to Fiat ordering ECUs and one "off the shelf" was cheaper and the Purchasing Dept had the final say and you have what we have got, and flash job which errs on the side of caution.

That's what I liked about Saab. If they didn't like the bits in the GM parts bin they made their own. Much to the annoyance of GM execs.

There is a story that they spent megabucks developing a satnav system because they didn't like the display on the GM system. Sadly that's why they probably went bust.

I think we have wandered off topic here.

The central and single point of failure for all systems. Thank god the Croma and other vehicles are not aircraft or we would be in deep *hit".

AA/RAC: "How can we help you?"
Us: "My ECU has crashed and the car won't work"
AA/RAC: "What do you mean by crashed?"
Us: "It got crashed into by an aircraft. I spoke to the other driver/pilot and he said the EML light came on on the dashboard and all systems failed and he lost control!"

:D

Well you may joke, but scientists are talking about driverless cars being on the road within the next 4 years.

Now given the unreliability of the electronic systems of every modern car, I know Fiat, Citroën, Peugeot are worse than most, but no manufacturer has produced 100% perfect electronics, I find this idea just more than a bit scary.

well at least I wont be in the car when it lights up like a Christmas tree and stops on its own!!!, :(
Following up on my original post, next day the car did it again, this time working like a true mechanic I sprayed the same injector and its been fine since. the wonders of this new technology.:)
