General Scuttle Drain DIY fix

There will be a small hole in the scuttle where the water gathers on the passenger side. If you can't see it then rub with your finger - it's probably full of mud. This hole is the back of a short stumpy connector on the underside. The original tube just pushes onto it from underneath and (I think) is just held by friction. If you're going to use something a bit wider (a very good idea) then it will need some kind of packing and/or clamp to stop it falling off.

Duncan - if you check out my first post you will see the photo I took of my "fix". he small hole in the scuttle is plain to see so you know where to look.
My guess is that the "flap " valve under the pollen filter is blocked as well and needs to be poked out with a screw driver. Water is collecting at this lowest point but not escaping and moist air is getting into the car via the pollen filter.

I see the small hole just above thw orange pipe. Mine definitely does not have one, clean plastic all the way along. Took pics to check inside, nothing, nadda, zilch. Mine must be different. Drain hole on both sides is clear and when I put hose on window there are no drips near the pollen filter!

So if you squirt water on the windscreen where does it go?

Are you by any chance the owner of a rare-as-rocking-horse-poo UK facelifted Croma? Does it have blue or red Fiat badges?

...or is it an older Croma, in which case you need the other forum section. This forum is for the one that looks like the picture in my avatar, i.e. like a posh van.

2005 blue badge. Water drains where wipers are. I can categorically state no drain hole in plastic below windscreen. Just had windscreen replaced, I was shocked that it was in stock, windscreen guy cleared scuttle hole on drivers side but I still get misted windows when heater is blowing to screen, only clears with aircon on. Maybe problem with heater matrix in which case I'll stick with aircon on to clear screen.

Well this is a conundrum and no mistake:confused:. One thing is really puzzling me was when you said the window screen man cleaned out the drain on the drivers side?? Is your car LH drive????
If the water is getting away then it may be the flap valve in the bottom of the scuttle that is blocked . This will cause water to lie in the area just under the pollen filter and damp air will be drawn into the car.
I have loaded the photos of mine earlier in the thread this should give you an idea of where to look. Check it out and clean with a screwdriver to ensure water can get away .(y)

Drain flap under pollen filter was always clear. Didn't know there was one on drivers side (rgt side) until windscreen guy told me about it. Did see the puddle but he cleared it for me.

So which way do the wipers go? Is the unwiped bit outside the arc of the wiper on the driver's side or he passenger's? Is the big wiper on the driver or passenger side?

The reason I ask is that I would have thought that a LHD scuttle should only fit LHD wipers.

You've got a very special Croma there. As theorised earlier by Tarquin, it's probably on the left as the car would tip that way if parked on a road camber pointing the right way.

I think we Croma anoraks need some photos!

Waiting with bated breath!!! No idea how to upload from a mobile , only just learned how to use a keyboard ( 2 fingers of course) ;-0

Yes, I know it's not clear at first - the photo button expects you to be linking a photo that's already somewhere on the internet, not a photo from your computer.

Do this...

From a PC, click "New Reply" (the blue button, not "Reply" or "Quick Reply".

Click the paper clip (attachments).

Click Browse and find your photo on your computer.

Click the Upload button within the box where your file is shown.

After uploading, it should show under "Current Attachments". You can now close the little window.

All done!
