I had a small accident last month so I had to replace the right headlight. I don't remember how the light beams looked on the wall before I hit the car, but now after repair it doesn't seem right. Take a look at this drawing that I made and tell me if yours look like this or of you could make a drawing also it would be perfect. My biggest concern is why the high beams are not on the same horizontal line, shouldn't be like that ?!
This is the exactly position and form of the beams I see on the wall at 10 meters away, after the alignment found in eLearn.
Any opinions or suggestions are welcome.

Squares = low beam
Circles = high beam

The new headlight will need setting up because it is very unlikely that it will be correct straight out the box. Also H7 bulbs need to go in the correct way up, otherwise it will throw the beam out in the wrong direction.

I did the alignment for both, changed all the bulbs, H7 and H1 with OEM ones, from Osram. They are inserted correctly. In my opinion the high beam should be higher than the low beam, exactly like on the right side, where I think is the correct position.

Just came home from work and checked the H7 bulb from the left one again. It seems that the hole of the bulb is not so perfect so you can mount the bulb in a wrong position. Thank you for the heads up, that solved my problem and now my high beams are on the same line, each above the low beam as they should be.This problem gave me some nightmares for few days and now I'm just smiling. Thanks again :) (y)

Its easy this Croma owning!!
Bit of grease in the right place and a bulb turned the other way round and "Bobs your uncle"???!!:D

I melted a few retinas after changing my bulb in a petrol station in the dark once. They do clip in OK even if wrong. I guess the design of the bulbs is one of those things where if we started again with a blank sheet of paper they wouldn't be designed as they currently are.

Been to Ireland then Doofer? the design they do is on paper that comes on a roll, and is quilted!!
Its known that a problem with the bouncing bomb was solved by Barnes Wallace on a sheet of IZAL while he was having a "Mohne" and thinking of "Eder" :p

Izal - now there's one thing from the good old days that was definitely not good. Thankfully that design was chucked away and started again from first principles, starting with:

Should it:
(a) Wipe
(b) Smear infinitely

Should it be:
(a) Soft
(b) Painful

Apologies for yet another thread-drift!

AHHH thread drift--- I can remember when that meant a cross threaded nut!!

It was about that time when my best chat -up line was-- You have got eyes like spanners--- every time you look at me my nuts tighten.

I`ll get mi coat:D

When I was changing my headlights to the Osram NB+ a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the old bulbs were installed differently.

The nearside had the wires pointing straight down whereas the offside had them to the left as I was looking at it from the front.

Not sure why they'd be different and as both old bulbs have been through at least 1 MOT test like that I put the replacements in the same way.
There doesn't seem to be any difference on the road as far as I can see anyway.

It's a slight inconvenience having to remove the water bottle filler but that's nothing to taking out the air filter to get at the offside bulb.

I'm fairly sure (not totally, only from memory) that all the front bulbs can be changed without removing anything, with pianists fingers and a box of plasters. This relies on working by feel and swearing a lot though.

That isn't the preferred method, but I think you'd be OK in an amergency without any tools.

Had a nosey under the bonnet of my neighbour's diesel Impreza today when he was changing a sidelight and his is pretty much the same. Remove the ns water bottle filler, push the battery over a bit (!) and then you can get your hand in.
On the offside it's the same dismantle the air intake, remove the airbox and filter routine.
