Styling DRL (Daytime running lights

I use nightbreakers in my van and the Croma had them already fitted when I bought it. The bulb life seems very good. In the past I have used cheap imitations and they didn't last very long, plus the light output was significantly less.
I have recently fitted Autobulbs Cobalt 2's, after reading some good reviews. They seem very good, though I can't comment on lifespan yet.

I'll just add that I saw a huge difference (like night and day, as they say) between the bog-standard bulbs that were fitted in mine and nightbreakers. There are other brands that are similar too.

It went from yellowish candlelight to clear, white light.

And yes, all legit and proper too. They don't have any dazzling effect, provided the light is properly dipped.

Or get HIDs if you want to annoy everyone and look like a ****!

And back on topic - DRLs... Why not just switch the sidelights on? I often do when the weather's less than sunny, just to make sure I'm visible.

Sidelights (also known as parking lights - there's a clue) are 5w. DRLs are 21w if using a conventional bulb, or equivalent with LEDs. In many lighting conditions, sidelights are not clear, many times you may see a vehicle and only later notice their sidelights. They may not be as effective at getting you seen by the myopic majority as you might hope. I'd recommend headlamps, or DRLs.

Fair enough then. Are LED sidelight bulbs any good/legal? They should be more eye-catching.

Personally I find DRLs too bright. But then I do have regular eye-tests and don't drive around staring at the end of my own bonnet like some do. I guess you do have to make sure your safety is idiot-proof, by making your car unmissable. Sad but how it is.

Actually, with a Croma you can just never switch the lights off, as they go off with the ignition anyway. Dipped beam is probably a bit much for daytime though, and a waste of leccy/bulb life. You could treat the sidelight position as off though - just go to dipped when it's dark.

I can see where you're coming from, but not really as they're designed to give out similar light output to OEM bulbs anyway, and LEDs are direction, not sure about the Croma, but I know most cars sidelight bulbs are not mounted dead straight on.

I am fitting round drl's right now but I am not sure where to connect the DRL cable to the sidelight. And which color is the positive sidelight cable? Is it possible to use the fuse box to connect the cable?

Better to attach to the sidelight near the headlamp. Unplug the connector, then with a test lamp, see which one becomes live when the sidelights are switched on. Or see if you can trace what colour or connection follows to the sidelight bulb holder.

You want the grey wire. I drilled a small hole in the back of the round access cover and fed the wire through it. For the power supply I ran a cable with an in line fuse to the battery. If you remove the main battery cover you will see a 2nd cover. Under that are several terminals. I just used a spare one of those. Good luck
