I would like to say a big thankyou to a guy called Gus who owns Alfatune in St Helens in Lancashire.
I had an a bad do with my 2.4 mjet last week due to my own stupidty and basically destroyed the engine.
We ended up with No 5 conrod looking like a letter "S" due to a hydraulic lock.
Due to Gus wealth of knoledge with the jtd family he saved me removing the engine due to a suspect bent crank, which wasnt bent.
Gus thankyou very much. This man is a jtd god.

Well i was running around like a knob, getting it ready to go on holiday with the van and i was burning garden rubbish in the back garden in a steel bin.I removed the oil filter and through it in the steel bin.Went to fit the new filter and then realised i needed the plastic middle out of the old filter.By this time it had melted the pointy end off it.I cleaned it up best i could, but couldnt determine what was missing of it.Refitted the filter and plastic, filled with oil and ran it after about half an hour of thinking about the situation.
What swayed me to running it was the thought of knowing how long it would take to get the new part, which i have since found out is unobtainable.
Anyhow i ran it for all of 5 seconds at which point it locked solid. And the tears flowed.I was lost for words.
After about half an hour an 3 cups of tea i decided to pull the sump off after the good wife pointed out oil was running out the air box.It had hydrauliced on engine oil and bent no 5 rod.The breather goes into the oil service centre.I now know this. What a first class bell end i am.

I agree we've all been there! I hope it's not too costly to fix.
I did an oil change on my Lancia Beta (back in the day) and while reversing out to drive off, I noticed a shiny puddle rapidly appearing in front of the car! I can't remember whether it was the sump plug or the filter that I hadn't done up properly, but I was very lucky in that I tightened it, refilled the oil and no permanent damage was done.

Well its been fixed for nearly a week now.I tried to post a couple of days ago but was unsucessful.
It happened on the sunday before the bank holiday monday. The sump was off sunday night. That was when i found the bent rod.The head was off monday morning.I found on ebay a guy breaking a 10valve 2.4,rang him for a rod.Turns out he is an Alfa breaker at Burnley.Went up there and he had a brand new rod and piston.£130.00 Later we have the correct rod.But the pistons are different in the engine. We have a C1 and C2.I think for a wieght issue. No,s 1,3,5 are C2.No,s 2 and 4 are C1.So we put are original piston back in.
Wedensday head went back on after No 5 heater plug was drilled out after snapping.Gasket set worked out at £280.00 of CES.And a days wait.
As i thought the plastic insert for the filter is unobtainable requiring a full oil service centre.£245.00 but this is also unobtainable even in Italy.Again found second hand item £100.00 to you sir.
Thursday shes back running after a suspect bent crank whch turned out to be the reluctor ring bent for the speed sensor. Thanks Gus for the info.No 5 piston clouted it with the shortened conrod.
Friday shes on the ferry going to the isle of wight with 1400kgs of Adria behind it.
Never missed a beat.Awesome machine.

So you over filled it with oil

As others say, hope it isn't too costly to sort.

Not over filled, but from what i can gather the plastic oil filter insert that i fitted but in a damaged state seperates the breather side and the pressure side on the oil filter housing/service centre.I personally would think it would be easier to run the breather straight back into the air intake instead of the oil service centre if Fiat are that concerned with crankcase pressure. But a very expensive mistake.
