Re: Broken thermostat - Is it difficult to change?

[QUOTE=Telegraph;4018437] new clip refill and hopefully job done

Thank you very much for your quick reply, before job done I need to refill and evacuate the system, is it straight forward, filling, running the engine and top up or do I need to open sudden bleed nippels to get rid of air pockets?

Re: Broken thermostat - Is it difficult to change?

Hi Vento I did not bleed the system as such just refilled and squeezed the large hose a few times and did not loose much coolant any way but do double check after start up.

As you refit the hose you will see that the bulb fits nicely into the housing, new clip refill and hopefully job done. Ours is still fine last summer on our holidays it had a stiff test and no trace of overheat. The temp needle should rise to halfway fairly quickly even when it's freezing. I do not understand why FIAT fitted this over complex difficult to access expensive and unreliable thermostat assembly so many thanks to youtube gentleman!.

Fitted this old Volvo 360 and Renault thermostat: first removed the engine under tray and placed a bucket to catch the cooling liquid from the disconnected hose. About 3 litre liquid poured out after loosening the hose. Was able to press the thermostat 25 mm in the hose as visible on the video (not an easy job). Connected the hose again with adjustable jubilee clips instead of the originals. Filled the system with the catched old liquid and drove around till the engine was on temperature. Topped up with half a litre new liquid. Drove about 1500 KM since and experienced the result as very satisfying. Will keep an eye on it.

Re: Broken thermostat - Is it difficult to change?

Hi Vento that's great it took me some time to get the stat in to the hose but still much quicker than changing the original!
