fuse box near your right knee, obd11 socket is on the right of fuse board

The socket's almost hidden - I always end up kneeling down on the road with the door open to find it. It's also a slightly different shape to the plug - its ends are notched, not the simple D-shape of the plug.

Is there anything in the socket that I'll need to take out to connect?

I unscrewed the thing that looks like an ashtray by my right knee and there were some connectors in there, they all had something in them though.

The car has the little round parking sensor things, I've tried turning the key but not starting the engine, putting it in reverse and putting my hand over them to see if anything happens and nothing. No warning on the dash either. Can you turn off the sensors?

there is an option to turn them off if towing iirc

If you've unscrewed the thing that looks like an ashtray by your right knee you'll be confronted by a fusebox. If you look behind it you'll see a fitting that looks not unlike a TV scart lead socket. This is where you plug the non usb end of your lead into. It's definitely easier either with the drivers door open and looking up into and behind all the wiring / fuses. Don't unplug or disconnect anything. The connector can only go in one way and you'll need to turn the engine on for the ecu to connect to the laptop.

It's almost invisible among all the other stuff. I think it's somewhere towards the right, recessed behind everything, black and there's nothing plugged into it.

It's obvious once you find it but it baffles me every time I look for it, as it's usually only every year.
