Croma 1.9 8v Anyone know if you need any special tools to remove the glow plugs- socket size etc ? Got the 'check glow plug' light come on now:(
I have heard it can be easy to snap them and leave the end stuck in the head. Anyone if this is true?

this is on the 1.9 16v but should be similar. Im guessing they use the same glow plugs so would need a 9mm deep socket.

Just take your time and be careful, Its not much different to changing a spark plug.

Concerns a Croma Diesel 16V 150 BHP built 2008. Got the message ”have checked glow plugs” on the dash. Started with reading the Fiat Forum about this issue. After locating the plugs on the engine I took the connection caps of with a paint stir wood (king size) as a level. Measured the resistance between coils and ground with a circuit analyser. On three coils the resistance was about 1 ohm, and one showed infinite. Checked also if it was possible to unscrew the plugs with a 9 mm spanner as on the picture, no problem at all.
With FES I found the error P0683 (Engine Ecu Glow Unit Communication).
Ordered 4 new plugs at Mr. Auto, found the p/n after entering my license number. Replaced the old ones and deleted the error P0683 with FES. Moral of the story: replacing glow plugs on a 10 year old Croma is very easy.

As mentioned on another thread my No.3 glow plug has failed. Ordered a new one fron Aceparts on ebay Bosch duratherm part No. 025020300, Fiat part No.
46792355 / 46792359 £7.23. Job was literally 10 minutes including gettng the tools out and putting them away. I used a 1/4" drive 9mm deep socket with an extension and small "breaker" bar. egine was warm from a run 1/2 hour previously and old plug came straight out no problems at all. Having the plastic engine cover keeps dirt and moisture out of the recess so no corrosion. The Bosch plug was totally identical to the original which was a Beru. I used just a smear of Ceratec high temperature grease on the thread of the new plug.

I was sort of surprised that my glow plug came out easily given the horror stories on here. I wa missing an important point, the problems are mainly related to the 8 valve engine and mine is a 16V. Turns out there is a significant difference. The threads on the 8V 'plug are at the lower section of the body, quite far from the hex. Presumably this is at the bottom of a well in the head/inlet manifold that can fill with water etc. The 16V 'plug has the thread at the top of the body, close to the hex so stronger and not in a well.
I learn something every day.
