Sounds a good offer to me. I would consider myself extremely fortunate to get that for my 37000 miler. When I was in motors it was usual for salvage companies to pay 15% of book value, whether burnt out or bent wing. A burnt out Roller could be a major disaster.
On a total loss the wreck clearly belongs to the insurer, but total loss normally means the end of the policy, though it depends on the small print.

Common misconception. This is only the case if claiming direct from your insurance, not if a 3rd party claiming from another policy as in this case ;)

OK....

Personally being female about this, I do not have the storage or space to have the Croma back, as the Bravo courtesy is in the Croma's place.

I cannot see what is really salvagable except Engine, Gearbox, Wheels, Exhaust and some of the body panels / interior. I do not have the time to strip the Croma and wait for somebody to come along and buy something, despite if its worth more in parts, for a model that did not sell more than 1400 units. But I will bear it in mind.

Maybe I should investigate there offer of £6200 in what it entails and what I am committing to.

its because there was only 1400 that they break well, there are none in scrappies and when there is the parts go fast, now and again a breaker will list one on ebay i contact them straight away and all the bits i want are already gone :(
as soon as you accept the offer the courtesy car will be taken back.
bits i need are fuel flap catch thing, rear drivers side door step trim,
bit i would like to get but not urgent are grill, roof bars. maybe a roof motor.

bits that sell almost instantly are drive shafts, starter motor alternator, pas motor, just them 3 bits would probably sell for the scrap value of the car

Dave, what colour is yours, I've not been in about 6-8 weeks, but Hainford Hall in Norwich have a Croma thats rolled, been there about 1.5-2 years, interior is now USed as its been open to the elements and engine gone, but most other bits there iirc (y)

The total loss offer will be conditional on them keeping the salvage - it probably says so in their letter. I have checked this, and you are correct, this offer is for the Croma and the Salvage, hence why the offer is better than expected, before reading the small print.

It sounds like a blooming amazing offer to me. I'd be inclined to accept it, but it wouldn't do any harm to haggle a bit - I doubt they'd go back on their first offer, but don't blame me when they say "we've looked into it and it's actually worth £3000!". I am twitchy about haggling, just in case they got there figures wrong.

If you have the grey/blue interior is there any chance your front central cushioned armrest/lid could go missing before it goes away? I managed to scuff mine putting a desk in last week. My interior is dark grey / black, my previous own ( 55 Plate Croma ) had this interior. Sliding armrest is cushioned black vinyl

:)

£6.2K seems very reasonable when viewed in terms of what it will buy – surely that would cover a replacement Croma?

What arguments are there to support the view the car was worth >£6.2K?

Dave.

I replaced my fuel catch thing on my previous Croma, it came as a complete unit including the emergency pull cord, I recall not paying more than £40 including postage from a Cheshire Dealer. My flap on mine is Black.

Rear Drivers side door step trim is the undamaged side, so that will be available.

Grill is the MK2 design with Red central Badge with Mjet badge to the side.

Drivers side Roof Bar is buckled, as roof buckled badly, Passenger side Roof bar very badly bent, you would need to be a magician to straighten that.

Roof Motor, Mine does not have a skyroof.

Other parts are still on car and are undamaged.

Basically anything from the A to C pillar passenger side inc roof is stoved in badly.

My husband has checked were they said it was to go if I accepted the offer, I said Universal Salvage in Sandwich, but after researching likely it will be go to Copart ( Which is Universal Salavage ), as they are at the same postcode. He has been on there website, and have Fiat's

If your looking for another Croma, there is a 21000 mile, 06 plate 1.9 Eleganza Auto on Autotrader at the mo, £5499.
and
a 43000 mile 2005 55 plate 1.9 Eleganza manual for £4980

UPDATE :

I rang the insurance company of the third party and rejected the £6200 offer and try my luck, and long and behold they have increased there offer, which includes the salvage and my 3/4 tank of fuel to £6550.00 of which I have accepted this morning.

I enquired after acceptance of where the Croma is likely to go, and they said that it would be going to Copart who is their licensed partner.

Hopefully I still want a Croma, instead of going into the abyss of walking into another Fiat model that I would learn from.

There are 2 Croma's locally that seem interesting and need to viewed and test driven.

Though not as new, but mileage simular its worth a look.

dont forget its a buyers market for cromas, never pay the asking price, dont look too intrested when ringing and looking at the car

if the seller makes a big thing about the low mileage, you make a big thing of why its low, like say it could be low because its been off the road getting repaired or waiting for parts longer than its been on the road, because they are a rare car and not been sold in the uk for years parts are hard to get ;)

Of course you are morally obliged to insist that the seller accepts the full £6500 for the car you buy, otherwise you'd be profiting from the situation.

Either that or you could send the leftover cash back to the insurer.

:D

Those two look extremely low mileage for their age. Suspiciously? Personally I'd get something newer, but I don't know what. By the way, one of your links includes your postcode - I don't know whether you're bothered about that.

I have have enquired about the 56 plate, 1 PRIVATE owner p/x against a new Proton. Had 5 low mileage annual services at Fiat and last year in December had the cambelt and water pump change on 5th Birthday.

Sold with RAC 12 months Platinium warranty.

Thinking a bit different, what about a Croma with a much posher interior?

You can't wear your top-hat while driving like you can in a Croma though.

I started looking at these as they were made long after the Croma. You can go newer for the same money, but the mileage goes up.

Personally I'd rather have new, high mileage than old, low mileage. I don't know whether Saabs would still even have a warranty if <3 years old. Possibly, via GM.
